Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, is seeking an experienced Assistant Operator at its Granite City, IL facility.

The Assistant Operator will be responsible for operating, maintaining and troubleshooting processes and equipment.

The working hours for this position are primarily Monday through Friday, with rotating day and night shifts every two weeks. Flexibility is required for occasional weekend on-call duties and plant outage support.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform operations with chemical or industrial gas processes and equipment, including process control using DCS systems.
  • Support minor maintenance activities across mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
  • Utilize computer-based systems (e.g., SAP, Microsoft Office, and other applications) to complete administrative tasks.
  • Handle time effectively as a self-starter, prioritizing critical tasks and delivering results with minimal supervision.
  • Collect and analyze data with a strong attention to detail to support sound decision-making.
  • Communicate clearly and collaborate with technical and administrative teams across multiple locations.
  • Follow and maintain standardized policies and procedures to support safe, high-quality, and cost-efficient operations.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience
  • Applicable degrees, certifications or other training considered a plus.
  • Solid background and previous work and/or military record
  • Must be willing to be on call to support 24x7 plant operations.
  • This is a safety sensitive position.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb ladders and steps and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

The hourly rate for this position is $39.92 per hour.

Technical School Graduates:Students with a background in Industrial Systems, Machine Tool Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Mechatronics, Automotive Technology, HVAC, Process Technology, Electrical Technology, Instrumentation Technology are encouraged to apply.
