General Scope of Duties:

Weekend Operators are responsible for setting up, maintaining, and operating production machinery to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality manufacturing. Operators are expected to be reliable, attentive to detail, and committed to working within company safety and quality standards. Collaboration and teamwork are essential to success in this role. The primary goal is to support continuous, efficient operations over the designated weekend schedule while maintaining operational excellence and safety.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Safely operate and maintain various machines in a production environment.
  • Serve as a back-up for the senior operator in cases of absence or scheduled time off.
  • Assist in training Production Assistants and new Operators as required.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain slitters, roll formers, unwind stations, and related equipment.
  • Operate and maintain forklifts and other material-handling equipment.
  • Conduct in-progress and post-job product inspections per management direction.
  • Set all machine parameters (speed, size, shape) before operation and ensure calibration before and after production.
  • Troubleshoot and correct machine faults promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Adhere to all client job specifications and production standards.
  • Complete all required production paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Load and unload delivery trucks, trailers, and raw materials.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks and assist with preventive maintenance as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in all work areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support production and plant operations.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience as a Machine Operator.
  • Successful completion of in-house slitter, forklift, and needlepunch operator certification.
  • Ability to read and understand production and safety manuals.
  • Strong multitasking and time management abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven reliability and commitment to team success.
  • Ability to create and maintain a respectful, safe work environment.
  • Must be able to regularly lift 50–75 lbs.
  • Compliance with all AstenJohnson safety policies and procedures is mandatory.

Work Schedule:

  • Thursday–Monday
    • Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
    • Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to Production Team Leader.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Effort & Working Conditions: Normal work environment allows the associate to work and move about freely of the workstation.  There may be some need to lift moderately heavy articles.  The physical environment is clean and climate-controlled within a partitioned workstation. There is frequent involvement in the manufacturing environment.  Sensory attention is required to do keyboarding and ensure product quality. The associate frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to find, handle, or feel objects, reach with hands and arms; stoop and kneel.
