What is a weekend operator?

A Weekend Operator is responsible for overseeing operations during weekends, ensuring that equipment, processes, or services run smoothly. Duties may include monitoring machinery, troubleshooting issues, maintaining production schedules, or handling customer inquiries, depending on the industry. This role is common in manufacturing, customer support, and facilities management. Weekend Operators are essential for maintaining business continuity outside standard work hours.

What does a weekend operator do?

Weekend Operators typically work during weekend shifts, which may include day, evening, or overnight hours depending on the facility’s operational needs. While teams may be smaller on weekends, collaboration remains essential, often involving close coordination with other operators, supervisors, and sometimes remote support staff. Operators are expected to be proactive in communicating equipment status and promptly addressing any issues that arise. This environment fosters independence as well as teamwork, and employers often provide structured handoff procedures to ensure smooth transitions between shifts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend operator?

To thrive as a Weekend Operator, you need strong operational skills, attention to detail, and prior experience in facility, manufacturing, or machinery operations, often requiring a high school diploma or equivalent. Job description

Description
Not many people can say they played a role in making parts for spaceships, airplanes, medical devices such as pacemakers, and so much more! You can be one of the few as a Furnace Operator at Solar Atmospheres in Chesterfield, MI!
Our Furnace Operators carry out vacuum heat treating and brazing services to some of the most notable companies out there. With extensive training (typically 6+ months), you'll learn the ropes from our tenured co-workers to provide services of the highest possible quality. Whether you have experience or not, with the right attitude, attention to detail, and some basic math skills, all duties can be trained with room for growth.
Since we are a 24/7 operation to meet our customers' needs, we are looking to add a team member to the following shifts:
Weekend Night Shift: 7 PM- 7:30 AM Saturday, Sunday, & Monday
Weekend Day Shift: 7 AM - 7:30 PM Saturday, Sunday, & Monday
What you'll do
You probably don't like being micromanaged which is good because we don't like to micromanage. As a Furnace Operator, you'll work independently, owning your projects from start to finish. Projects vary in length so you'll juggle a few projects at once, switching between tasks throughout the day. It's never a dull moment- from tracking the furnace's performance one moment to packing in or out a project the next. While every day might be a little different, you can expect to do the following:
  • Planning and changing out furnace loads and packing all orders
  • Operating furnaces and other shop equipment
  • Maintaining clean and orderly work areas (we pride ourselves on safety and cleanliness)
  • Follow project instructions and complete all customer labeling and packaging requirements
  • Configure and monitor settings on programs, recorders, and vacuum gauges
  • Work efficiently while ensuring company quality standards are maintained
  • Utilize a forklift and overhead crane as needed

What you need to thrive in this role
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Basic math skills will serve you very well
  • Reliable and organized with the ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Comfortability working in a fast-paced environment moving around consistently throughout the day
  • Ability to lift, bend, reach, and stand for extended periods of time
  • Experience in manufacturing, warehouse, or heat treatment is a plus but willing to train!
  • Forklift and Overhead Crane experience/licensure a plus

About us
The mission of Solar Atmospheres is to add significant value to our customer's operations by thermally treating parts, principally in a vacuum environment, with an unwavering commitment to honesty in all relationships. We will strive to fulfill this mission while:
  • Performing our work with an emphasis on quality and responsiveness
  • Operating with an awareness and appreciation of the value of our customer's parts while in our care
  • Forever looking "forward" in the area of technical capabilities
  • Demonstrating a willingness to "accept the challenge"
  • Providing and maintaining a work environment that is safe, clean and reflects our respect for human dignity
  • Providing our employees with an opportunity for personal growth, challenge and reward
  • Maintaining a workplace that is environmentally friendly
  • Sustaining long-term growth and profitability

What we offer you
We care about our employee's well-being and show it by providing the following:
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision
  • Short & Long-Term Disability
  • Life & AD&D Insurance
  • 401K with Company Match
  • Paid Time Off
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Employee Referral Program
  • Monthly Bonus Program

Thank you for considering us as a potential employer!
At Solar Atmospheres, we continually celebrate the diverse community different individuals cultivate. As an equal opportunity employer, we stay true to that by ensuring that our place can be anyone's place.
