WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The Recording Academy's mission is to recognize musical excellence, advocate for the well-being of music makers, and ensure music remains an indelible part of our culture. Internationally known for the GRAMMY Awards - the pre-eminent peer-recognized award for musical excellence and the most credible brand in music. The Academy is a professional membership organization of musicians, producers, engineers, and recording professionals, dedicated to improving the culture and quality of life for all music makers. The Academy's Membership & Industry Relations (M&IR) Department is comprised of a national network of 12 Chapters which each serve their local music communities.

The Membership Manager will identify strategies for recruiting new members, retaining current members, and re-engaging terminated members within the Country, CCM, Gospel, and American Roots genres, along with working together with the Nashville Chapter on outreach-related projects and initiatives as directed.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Work closely with Sr. Director, Member Outreach & Systems and the VP to develop strategies to recruit, retain and grow the Recording Academy membership base by researching current and prospective members with an emphasis on diversity in ethnicity, age, and career level.
  • Develop annual membership prospect list and membership recruiting strategies including but not limited to partnerships, conference/festival engagement, social media, direct email, direct mail, print campaigns, one-on-one meetings, and Chapter Board engagement.
  • Work together with GRAMMY U Representatives to identify GU Alumni as prospects for Voting and Professional membership.
  • Build relationships with and find places of Academy engagement for key figures in assigned genre communities.
  • Track membership outreach and renewal goals on an ongoing basis.
  • Thoughtfully articulate relevant Recording Academy topics and maintain regular communications with current and potential members through one-on-one meetings, emails, calls, presentations, and mailings.
  • Serve as a resource, in assigned genres, for the Membership & Industry Relations Department as needed.
  • Work together with Awards Department Genre Leads to be genre thought leaders within the Recording Academy and beyond.
  • Represent the Membership & Industry Relations Department as needed at conferences, festivals, community engagements, and other membership-relevant activities.
  • Work in partnership with assigned local Chapter(s) to manage that Chapter's Membership Committee and build consensus on all membership development strategies and implementations. Including but not limited to, setting meeting dates, providing agendas, and speaking notes to Committee Chair for monthly reporting.
  • Assist at assigned local Chapter Board meetings with membership presentations and important outreach-related updates including marketing and social media campaigns, process changes, and department initiatives.
  • Work in collaboration with all Chapter and Regional Teams on other projects and initiatives of the M&IR Department as directed.


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years of professional membership management experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Communicates well both verbally and in writing, shares information and ideas with others, has good listening skills, builds strong relationships, consistently demonstrates a positive and professional demeanor, and negotiates effectively. Ability to do public speaking and presentations.
  • Has excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Keeps information organized and accessible, and works efficiently while managing workload. Prioritizes tasks appropriately and manages time well. Successfully establishes goals, deadlines, and procedures and manages multiple projects or objectives.
  • Has deep knowledge of and passion for musical genres, with a particular emphasis on specific genre assignments. An understanding of the current musical landscape is critical. Previous music industry connections and relationships in assigned genres are a plus.
  • Can maintain composure in high-stress, complex situations; has excellent decision-making skills, clear communication, and delegation; fosters welcoming hospitality.
  • Adapts well to change, is flexible and open-minded to new ideas, solicits performance feedback, handles constructive criticism, takes on new responsibilities, handles pressure, and adjusts plans to meet changing needs.
  • Contributes to and helps the team meet all team deadlines and goals, listens to others and values opinions, welcomes newcomers, and promotes a team atmosphere. Meets commitments, stays focused under pressure, and meets attendance/punctuality requirements.
