Job Description

Job Title: Chief Programs & Membership Officer

Department: Programs & Membership

Reports to: CEO

Location: Remote

Employment Type: Full-time

Salary Range: $150,000 - $170,000

Band: Level 8

Position Summary:

The Chief Programs and Membership Officer is responsible to oversee the successful creation, planning, and deployment of all NSBE programs, pre-college, collegiate, and professional, in alignment with the organization’s mission. S/he is also responsible to ensure the engagement and growth of NSBE’s membership and to measure the impact of the organization towards its mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Programs

  • Ensure the successful creation, planning, and execution of NSBE programs.
  • Oversee the strategy to develop and deploy suitable programs in the pursuit of academic and technical excellence, chapter and member development, and community impact.
    1. Guide and provide support to all leaders and team members within Programs team to create and facilitate superb programs that meet NSBE’s mission.
    2. Ensure the success and impact of implemented programs.
    3. Support the strategy development for future programs.
  • Serve as escalation point of contact for partners and members, as needed.
  • Oversee the development, promotion, and selection of recipients of scholarship and awards.
  • Serve as the primary staff liaison between WHQ and the National Programs Zone of the National Executive Board.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with appropriate Chairs including the National Programs Chair and Professionals Programs Chair.
  • Lead the coordination of national program activities for the Annual Convention
  • Partner closely with Fund Development leadership to secure funding for programs and initiatives.
  • Work closely with staff in Programs and Fund Development to identify, cultivate, and monitor the development of strategic partnerships.
  • Develop and manage the Programs Department’s fiscal budget.
  • Support in developing and managing the training content and programming for national, regional, and chapter officers.

Membership

  • Serve as the primary advocate for the needs and wants of NSBE members.
  • Support chapter metric measurement and meetings.
    1. Monitor and report on all chapter membership metrics.
    2. Support and attend chapter meetings, as appropriate.
    3. Oversee the maintenance of chapter records.
  • In alignment with NSBE’s Strategic Plan, oversee the development and implementation of the Membership and Engagement Strategy.
    1. Provide direction and leadership to maintain and increase NSBE membership and engagement.
    2. Oversee the production and distribution of timely membership reports including those on demographics, survey data, member benefits, non-renewals.
    3. Analyze data and provide recommendations and strategies for strategic/operational planning.
    4. Oversee the maintenance and growth of the organization’s partnerships (community-based organizations, other non-profits, etc.) and cultivation of strategic partnerships through MOUs.

Research

  • Support grant-funding proposals, secure program funding, and produce donor reports to maintain and scale existing programs and launch new initiatives that align with NSBE’s mission.
  • Manage the development and monitoring of metrics and evaluation tools to ensure the success and impact of the organization’s initiatives.
  • Organize and direct the Society’s program of grants and sponsored research.
  • Create and foster an environment of support for the Society’s research community.
  • Maintains responsibility for the overall execution of all research partnership activities.

Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and support team members through the use of Performance Reviews, Performance Development Plans, coaching and mentoring, training, and disciplinary action, as needed.
  • Work closely with WHQ leadership and departments to fulfill the mission and vision of the organization.
  • Provide thought leadership in writing and speaking on outcomes associated with NSBE’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Compile and present required annual reports.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree (Ph. D) or equivalent in education, psychology, engineering, science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in program development, planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation. Budget management experience required.
  • Prior experience in academia or a similarly structured non-profit is a plus.
  • Previous experience managing a team of senior-level managers and their reports.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Access) and project management software.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain relationships (internal and external) is extremely important.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated and have a heart to move the organization and mission forward.
  • Comfort and confidence working under pressure of deadlines and on multiple priorities at once.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

Travel is required for the Annual National Convention, Fall Regional Conferences, National Transition and Leadership Conferences. Occasional travel to other conferences, chapters, and other industry- related events may be required and assigned by management.
