Job Description
The General Supervisor is responsible for operational oversight of the laboratory, which includes organizing work, supervising and training employees, monitoring quality control and assurance in compliance with CLIA/CAP requirements, data reporting, and solving technical and equipment problems. The general supervisor is expected to work in shifts (morning 7:30 to 15:30 hrs., evening 14:30 to 22:00 hrs.) and to be on site.
Core Job Functions
- Performs various laboratory duties to assist laboratory staff and ensure an efficient workflow. Effectively performs laboratory and proficiency testing and reporting of results in an accurate, timely and efficient manner. Adheres to all laboratory QA/QC policies while documenting all activities.
- Effectively performs equipment operation and maintenance, including function checks, as scheduled with documentation according to laboratory policies.
- Monitors sample logistics including specimen handling and testing. Documents unacceptable specimens according to laboratory policy. Communicates specimen requirements and problems to appropriate personnel.
- Oversees the laboratory safety program in accordance with current regulations, standards, and accrediting agencies.
- Assists in ensuring regulatory compliance and coordinates laboratory accreditation and licensing processes.
- Monitors performance of staff and assists in conducting staff evaluations in a timely manner.
- Performs necessary training to ensure competencies of laboratory staff. Coordinates performance improvement/quality improvement projects related to laboratory functions.
- Effectively performs other duties and projects as assigned by management and / or leadership.

Core Qualifications
Education:
A Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree in a relevant field
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of experience in a high complexity CLIA lab. Meets CLIA standards for general supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
- Knowledge of management principles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Competence with computer processing functions and other standard office equipment
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to calmly and professionally resolve staff issues with diplomacy and tact
- Ability to work efficiently and independently with minimal supervision
- Strong organizational and teamwork skills
