Job Title: Mechanical  Engineer

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supporting and creating mechanical designs, drawings and PCB outlines in support of new product development and product improvements. The candidate will be required to architect innovative Battery/Electronic Packaging Designs for the aerospace industry. The candidate should be skilled in 3-D modeling and thermal and stress simulation tools to verify designs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 In this role the incumbent’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Mechanical design and electronics packaging of battery primary & backup power units and battery chargers.
  • Work with Electrical and PCB Layout Engineers to make critical part placement on PCB assemblies.
  • Create required assembly drawings and wire lists / diagrams for products and sales proposals.
  • Performs design verification and tolerance checking.
  • Run analysis (thermal and stress) to validate design.
  • Contribute content to and present in Design Reviews.
  • Generation, revision, and maintenance of engineering drawings and parts lists.
  • Provide assembly drawings compatible with Component Maintenance Manuals.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineers with transfer of Units from Engineering to Manufacturing.
  • Participate in product cost reductions by looking for and validating alternate parts.

 

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have a background which includes the following demonstrable experience, skills, and education:

  • Familiarity with design, documentation, and assembly instructions of electronic components and assemblies a must.
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks CAD & PDM is required.
  • Experience in creating detailed mechanical drawings for piece parts, assemblies, machined parts, and sheet metal parts.
  • Experience with related aerospace standards such as DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, etc.
  • Advanced skills in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) best practices.
  • Ability to utilize thermal and stress simulation tools (SolidWorks ,Flotherm, Ansys, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of Welds, Solder, and Interconnect techniques.
  • Performs Static and Dynamic FEA models desired.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required, MS preferred.
  • 7  years of experience in mechanical design, documentation, and packaging of Electronic Assemblies.

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, reach with arms and hands, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

  •   To conform to U.S. export control regulations, applicant should be eligible for any required authorizations from the U.S.              Government
  •   Must be eligible to serve as an Empowered Official under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time and an air-conditioned and heated office. The noise level is occasionally high.
