As Assistant Claims Manager you will be a crucial part of our management team, responsible for assisting in the identification, assessment and mitigation of risks associated with our operations. This position requires a proactive, analytical mindset and a commitment to maintaining high safety and compliance standards in the trucking industry.
Duties:
- Provide strong leadership and guidance to the claims team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the claims processing function, ensuring efficient and accurate handling of claims from start to finish.
- Establish and maintain robust documentation processes to track and organize all claims-related information.
- Foster effective communication within the claims team and with external stakeholders, including customers, drivers, claimants and insurance providers.
- Serve as the company’s representative during litigation related to claims, working closely with legal counsel to defend the company’s interests.
- Lead the evaluation of claims and negotiate settlements, setting an example for the team in terms of prompt and fair resolution.
- Analyze claims data to identify trends and develop proactive strategies to reduce future claims incidents.
- Collaborate with external vendors, such as repair shops and adjusters, to ensure cost-effective and timely claim resolution.
- Oversee annual insurance renewals for a variety of programs and closely monitor those programs for liquidity levels and accounting reconciliation.
- Remain current on state and federal laws relating to trucking litigation and trends within the claims industry.
- Travel as needed to negotiate settlements, meet with brokers or insurance carriers, and to attend educational seminars relevant to position.
- Be available to handle after-hours emergencies and serve in an on-call rotation with other personnel.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations related to claims management, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requirements.
- Prepare and present regular reports on claims data, providing insights and recommendations for improvement to General Manager.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., Associate in Claims) are a plus.
- Proven leadership experience, including managing and developing a team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Detail-oriented and well-organized.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
