General Manager Job Description

This challenging role requires balancing and driving sales and production for the business growth.  Naturally, this will require hard-work and a positive personality that can deal with a variety of tasks and challenges from day to day including working between field to shop to office activities with an amazing team!  The General Manager must nurture the key support aspects of running the shop business with scheduling, supplies and sales & customer support.   This will be a great opportunity for someone who has experience with refinishing crafts (wood working and painting), as well as sales and management experience looking to grow and build a business.   More importantly, this business is about processes, customer focus and people.   It requires making decisions and taking action to lead people.

Scheduling: Work directly with customers and with field crews to connect key information related to initial scheduling for work, schedule changes, appointment notifications, followup and management of open issues to ensure top-notch customer service.   When new jobs are sold, coordinate with the shop and then with customers.  Make changes for any scheduling improvements that could minimize downtime and optimize production and revenue.   Dispatch crews to work from the shop and from the field as required.

Sales: Be the #1 Sales person! Screen inbound lead calls and emails to qualify and set onsite assessments as well as sales over the phone.   This area of the position will have an incentive/commission tied into the compensation after the introductory period.   Support the development and management of advertising including social media, direct mail and other forms of advertising.   A sales professional will be hired when we are ready to scale.

Supplies: Ensure all materials are proactively ready for the production process. Enable the ability to maintain the consumables & PPE inventory to ensure seamless operations and ZERO downtime related to material needs to operate the shop and the vehicles.  Ensure the shop and trucks are maintained for professionalism and reliability including planned/unplanned maintenance activities, regular service & cleaning.  Find opportunities to improve shop and field efficiencies and reduce trip costs with creative sourcing, planning, and feedback to/from field teams.

Shop: Drive the use of process and systems! Coordinate the sequence of work, crew assignments, method of work and use of tools.  Take the direct technical lead based on personal experience or find qualified experts to support the needs with doors needs such as astragals, locks, windows and other standard wood repair applications such as epoxy, resin, stain, glue, top coats and other preservation materials.  Expand the business scope from doors and entryways to cabinets, other interior refinishing including stairs and furniture.  Get set up with local distributors and suppliers to provide customer solutions.

Experience with refinishing, woodwork, painting and coatings will be helpful as well as familiarity with home services and local businesses to leverage technical support and sales opportunities, but it is not required given the right 'can-do attitude' candidate who is able to drive action. Other areas of administrative support may also be required and will progress to managing the P&L.
