Wiley University seeks well-qualified professionals to join its team as Academic Advisors in the Office of Student Achievement and Retention (OSAR). The Academic Advisor plays a pivotal role in supporting the academic success and holistic development of undergraduate students. Serving as a primary point of contact for First Time Freshmen, Freshmen, and Sophomores up to 59 credit hours, the Academic Advisor provides comprehensive advising services, assists students in navigating academic requirements and university policies, degree audit navigation and major selection, and offers guidance on personal and career-related matters. This position requires a commitment to student-centered advising, a thorough understanding of academic programs and resources, and a dedication to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. The successful candidates will advise undergraduate students to ensure the students ' successful transition to college and full engagement in curricular and co-curricular activities that enhance and complement classroom instruction. For each assigned caseload, the Academic Advisor monitors student success by continuous assessment of the student 's needs and accomplishments , development of an individualized program of studies and supplemental instruction and assisting the student to access tutorials and other resources and services offered by the University as needed. The position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in sociology, counseling, psychology, guidance, student personnel, or higher education administration from an accredited institution. Experience in Student Success in a plus. The Academic Advisor position is a twelve (12) month position and reports to the Executive Director of Strategic Retention and Student Success.

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Positive attitude and sincere desire to provide academic support to students in need as well as to provide information to concerned parents, faculty, staff, and other constituencies;
  • Excellent oral communication skills, including effective phone presence and group presentation skills;
  • Excellent written communication skills, including attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Ability to relate to and effectively establish rapport with a diverse undergraduate student population;
  • Professional demeanor, including appropriate attire for a leadership position with significant student contact, as well as maturity to function as a staff member in a college office;
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (esp. Word , Excel , Outlook , and PowerPoint);
  • Willingness to develop a strong working knowledge of Wiley University's policies , procedures, and campus resources;
  • Drive to contribute and willingness to "roll up your sleeves" and help with miscellaneous office tasks;
  • Experience in academic advising or student success is preferred;
  • Provide individual and group intrusive academic advising to undergraduate students, assisting them in developing academic plans that align with their educational and career goals.
  • Assist students in understanding degree requirements, course selection, registration procedures, and academic policies and procedures.
  • Monitor students' academic progress, identify potential obstacles to success, and provide proactive intervention and support; provide early alert interventions
  • Collaborate with faculty advisors, department chairs, and other campus stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely advising.

Responsibilities and Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as an academic coach for students.
  • Advise students on a range of academic and campus issues, including assisting with the development of time management, goal setting, test taking, and other student success skills.
  • Develop action plans for academic and student success.
  • Keep regular office hours with flexibility in scheduling of work hours (each semester, some evening hours, and occasional weekend hours);
  • Initiate contact, meet regularly with and maintain electronic files for assigned student caseload of readmitted/reinstated students to monitor progress and to help students achieve academically.
  • Develop and prepare materials for academic success workshops for students.
  • Collect, report, and evaluate data on student participation, grade point average, and retention.

Function as a member of the Office of Student Achievement and Retention:
