Job Description

SUMMARY 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the organizing of our engineering shop. You will play a critical role in the assembly, maintenance, and improvement of our subsea robotic systems. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring our equipment operates at peak performance, ultimately contributing to the success of our clients' underwater missions.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Oversee the assembly, integration, and testing of subsea robotic systems.
  • Perform maintenance, repairs, and upgrades on existing equipment.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to develop and implement design improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols.
  • Manage inventory and procurement of necessary materials and components.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues with subsea robotic systems.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians to enhance their skills and knowledge as needed
Qualifications

Required

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in mechanical engineering, with a focus on complex machinery or robotics.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for design and drafting.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Hands-on experience with machining, welding, and fabrication.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Understanding of subsea environments and challenges.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred 

  • Certification in welding or machining.
  • Experience in a subsea or marine-related industry.
  • Knowledge of underwater sensors and imaging systems.
  • Familiarity with programming and control systems (e.g., PLCs).
  • Experience with project management.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Previous experience in a shop management or supervisory role

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • The employee will also be frequently required to stand.
  • The employee must frequently lift, push, or pull equipment at a minimum of 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to access a variety of storage spaces and shelving units by stretching, squatting, and reaching.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, maneuver in tight spaces, and stand for extended periods.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing some duties of this job, the employee may be required to travel domestically and internationally. This role may also require exposure to a variety of construction and/or offshore platform, various bodies of water job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. 

The performance of this position will require frequent traversing in lab and storage areas, which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.
