Summary/objective

This role is responsible for the management and administration of company Payroll while ensuring compliance, accuracy, and timeliness of payroll responsibilities. The ability to process employees’ paychecks by collecting their payroll data and timesheets. Communicate discrepancies to Controller and to employees. Assist in streamlining the payroll process by identifying areas for performance improvement. Exercise integrity and confidentiality in payroll reporting and comply with national and local financial requirements. This position is onsite at the Oak Ridge, TN location.

  • Understand all aspects of payroll with regards to payroll laws and regulations
  • Administer and participate in payroll processing activities for various payroll groups including the preparation, processing, and balancing of payroll. Ensure all information received from data and manual data sources is entered into the system without error. Utilize internal or external payroll technologies for payroll processing activities.
  • Administer Omega’s retirement program (401(k)).
  • Reconciles monthly benefit bills and addresses errors or issues in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Utilize ADP software for payroll data input, processing, and reporting.
  • Reconcile payroll transactions quarterly and for end of year W2 processing.
  • Participate in the review and preparation of data necessary for the filing of payroll related tax returns and miscellaneous withholding forms.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects and initiatives; supports the development and maintenance of payroll process documentation.
  • Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed timely and accurately.
  • Provide excellent customer service to employees.
  • Process and record 401K, HSA, and garnishment payments.
  • Develop ad hoc financial and operational reporting as needed.

Competencies

  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and (verbal and written) communication skills. As well as strong organizational, time management and prioritization abilities.
  • Have a working knowledge of payroll best practices.
  • Have a strong knowledge of Federal and State regulations.
  • Possess a strong PC knowledge including proficiency in Excel.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic and be a team player.

Physical demands

Sitting for extended periods is common. Hearing, vision, and speaking within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents. No heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 10 lbs.

Required education and experience

  • An associate degree in accounting or equivalent work experience
  • 10 years of payroll experience in Federal, State & Local and Commercial contracting industry contract setting
  • Strong knowledge of Payroll Platform and software.

Preferred education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • 15 years of payroll experience in Federal, State & Local, and Commercial contracting industry and contract setting
  • Strong knowledge of Unanet and ADP.
  • Payroll Certification a plus
