Technical Instructor/Shop Floor Manager

JOB SUMMARY: Instructs all technical training programs in the area of certified diesel mechanics, welding and hydraulics and any other required programs, for the purpose of preparing inmates to execute commercial work on the shop floor. This position also runs the normal commercial business that runs through the shop floor which is primarily the repair and refurbishment of agricultural equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Oversee the planning and execution of all repairs and refurbishment of agricultural equipment as directed by the Operations Manager.
2. Primary instructor for all technical training courses for inmates to include, but not limited to certified diesel program, certified hydraulics program and certified welders.
3. Skilled in job quoting, planning, and tracking of hours and expenses for each major job or project.
4. Instruct inmate workers, both skilled and unskilled, in welding, fabrication, painting, and paint prep.
5. Operate within policy guidelines of tool control and inmate management.
6. Maintain equipment assigned to this position. (Vehicles, tools, site equipment, etc.)
7. Work with Florida Department of Corrections regarding inmate control.
8. Perform special projects as directed by Operations Manager.
9. Follow all safety requirements to include ensuring inmates are welding certified.

1. Education and Experience: High School graduate and 2 years’ experience as a supervisor in maintenance and repair of farm equipment. Ability to operate equipment utilized in site prep and utilities maintenance of buildings.
2. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
3. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure. Ability to compute rate and percent and interpret bar graphs.
4. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
5. Specialized Knowledge and/or Skill: Knowledgeable of software for developing and instructing diesel program. Ability to instruct an online course. Basic understanding of all farm vehicle repair; certified welder. Holds an adjunct teaching certification or is capable of obtaining an adjunct teaching certificate for Diesel and Hydraulics certified programs.
