Technology Support Services (TSS) is the Information Technology unit of the Shoreline Community College, which supports the technology infrastructure and desktop technology needs of the entire organization's business and academic functions. TSS' overall responsibilities include but are not limited to the network and networking infrastructure, desktop and portable device support, database and application development, email and web-based services, data and telecommunications systems, and security and IT related policies.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Manage, analyze, configure, troubleshoot, and resolve routine and advanced switching and related issues in a heterogenous network environment using traffic and performance management tools.
  • Test and monitor performance of the data and telecommunications systems.
  • Consult with various stakeholders to design, deploy, and maintain network infrastructure and equipment technologies to ensure successful business continuity and operations in alignment with the college's mission and strategic goals.
  • Supports, maintains, and enhances campus network (wired and wireless) and VOIP systems, and may install vendor and support software as needed. Plans for growth and space requirements. Establishes performance measures, analyzes problems, makes recommendations for improvements, and implements tuning adjustments.
  • Analyze network communication traffic flow, logs, alerts and other relevant operational information. This information will be used to make recommendations to improve internal and external systems and network communications and connectivity.
  • Maintain awareness of current security, compliance, technical issues using appropriate avenues such as vendor support sites, community forums, consultation, and solution experts to troubleshoot, resolve, and prevent issues.
  • Assists with periodic security risk assessments on client, server, and network systems; develop and implement appropriate and effective security measures based on findings; and document processes, findings, and resolutions.


Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate Degree in Computer Science or related field OR equivalent experience in technology environment directly related to position.
  • 2 years network administration / management.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • IPv4, IPv6, DNS, DHCP, SIP, VoIP technologies in heterogenous networking environment
  • Security access controls, Virtual LANs, Firewalls, VPNs, and authentication systems
  • Copper and fiber cabling specifications
  • Vulnerability scanning and patch management for networking systems
  • Call routing, voice mail, etc. implemented in VOIP telephony systems
  • Microsoft Office applications such as SharePoint, Excel, Outlook, and Word programs

Conditions of Employment

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The College is currently providing services in a mixed modality of operations (both online and in-person services are offered). This position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus, ability to communicate in person or through appropriate means. Please note, there may be limited opportunities for online work depending on program or area needs. If authorized for online work, employees will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY:
This position is allocated to pay range 05IT under the Washington State Office of Financial Management higher education salary schedule. Salary placement for new employees is determined by the College. This position works a minimum of 40 hours per week, with schedule dependent upon department needs and is an overtime exempt position. Hiring of this position is contingent on available funding as determined by the College President.
