The Arc of Greater Brockton

Accountant

(non-exempt position)

REPORTS TO: Director of Finance and Executive Director

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None

The Accountant will provide financial and record-keeping management support to the Director of Finance and Executive Director. The Accountant will be cross-trained as needed to provide administrative support in the areas of finance and associated administrative operations of the organization.

The Accountant position is “hands on”, which requires all work to be performed at The Arc of Greater Brockton offices. This is not a “remote” position.

As with all positions at The Arc of Greater Brockton, consistent punctual arrival at work, commitment to assigned hours, positive attitude, and adherence to the Organization’s policies is expected and is an essential aspect of employment.


  • Ensure and safeguard The Arc of Greater Brockton’s participants’ human dignity, rights, and liberties.
  • Provide general bookkeeping, billing, and financial record-keeping assistance to the Director of Finance in support of the organization.

  • Oversee and manage the monthly expenditures of each department in the utilization of Credit Cards, Amazon Accounts, and other associated vendor accounts.

  • Oversee and manage the various accounts receivables platforms including Stripe, Venmo, and the receipt of cash, check payments and electronic transfers.

  • In collaboration with the Director of Finance conduct oversight and the processing of all Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivables associated with the organization, and the organization’s individual business operations.

  • In collaboration with the Director of Finance actively monitor all accounts and business operations from a budget to actual standpoint on a monthly basis.

  • In collaboration with the Director of Finance and Department Directors facilitate the ordering of general office and cleaning supplies to support the organization and individual departments.

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director and Director of Finance oversee the administration of all new employee onboarding requirements, as well as the management of benefit programs such as health and dental insurance, life insurance, and other associated benefit programs.
  • Oversee the management and utilization of all organization vehicles such as the AGB Team utilization scheduling system, maintenance records, employee driving records, and associated proper vehicle management requirements.
  • Assist in the facilitation of incoming calls to the organization, ensuring all requests and inquiries are disseminated to the proper staff member and/or Department.

  • Provide administrative assistance to the Director of Finance and Executive Director as applicable in support of the general operations of the organization.

  • Comply with all safety regulations and report any hazards, injuries, or violations immediately.
  • Attend and participate in employee meetings, trainings, and development, as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Finance and Executive Director.


EDUCATION

An Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or other business-related course study is preferred, or a combination of education and 2-4 years of experience equivalency.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of 2 years of experience working with financial record keeping, financial software (Quickbooks) and a payroll processing system (ADP). The ability to utilize computers and to navigate and learn new technology is required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

A satisfactory background check, including CORI and Fingerprinting is required. A valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record and background check is required.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

Individual must be a positive team player and have the ability to work harmoniously and effectively with staff and management. Individual must be able to take instruction from the Executive Director, Director of Finance, and Departmental Directors as well as work independently. Individual must display a professional, positive and helpful manner and exhibit confidentiality. Individual must possess patience, good judgment, tact, accuracy, and reliability. Individual must demonstrate a high regard for each person and sensitivity for cultural values, expectations and goals of individuals served and their families. Individual must possess good communication skills and have the ability to speak comfortably, intelligibly, pleasantly and efficiently with those served, their families, colleagues, management staff and those calling the Organization. Individual must demonstrate superior multi-tasking skills and exhibit effective time management. Individual must demonstrate attention to detail and possess good observation skills. Individual must have proven initiative skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Individual must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, policies, and procedure manuals. Must have the ability to compose routine reports and correspondence. Must have the ability to communicate effectively and present information and respond to inquiries from subordinates, management, participants, family members and visitors. Individual must be able to fluently speak and understand English for effective teamwork and coordination. Bi-lingual language skills may be helpful.

REASONING ABILITY

Individual must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to draw valid conclusions. Must be able to concentrate on voluminous lists of financial data. Individual must have the ability to assess situations and resolve problems without supervision. Individual must have thorough knowledge of basic math skills. Must have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages. Must have aptitude for quantitative skills. Must have the ability to learn, operate and maintain new office technologies as they are developed and implemented. Must have the ability to work attentively at computer, maintaining focus and concentration on voluminous information, is crucial.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Computer literate, preferable in Microsoft Office for documentation and recordkeeping skills.
  • Must have the ability to utilize Quickbooks, and a payroll processing system (ADP)
  • Must have the ability to troubleshoot computer issues.
  • Must have the ability to learn and comprehend new computer programs.
  • Must have the ability to efficiently operate phone system to handle incoming calls and direct calls to appropriate staff members/departments.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be legally permitted to work around children (check of the National Sex Offender public website will be conducted).

  • The employee is frequently required to lift/ and or move objects of no more than 10 pounds (i.e., office supplies) unassisted. The employee may need to assist, lift and/or move individuals in and out of wheelchairs and intervene verbally and physically with individuals during behavior incidents.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak clearly and have the ability to hear and understand directions and requests.
  • The employee must have the ability to clearly hear and understand callers to ensure all inquiries are managed efficiently and effectively and disseminated to proper staff member and/or Department.
