Summary

Head Start Preschool Bus Driver Part-time: Baraboo, WI:
Key Requirements:
  • Part-time 16-20+ hours per week, Monday through Friday.
  • Part-year position that runs for 9 months during our school year, starts late August and finishing mid-June. We are actively interviewing for this position. Ideal candidate would currently hold a CDL and bus endorsement, training would be available for a candidate as well.
  • Will drive Head Start children (age 3 to 5) twice per day, once for pickup in the morning and another for drop-off in the afternoon.
  • The bus driver must have or obtain a School Bus Driver's License (CDL) within 90 days of hire and have a clean driving record for the past 3 years.
  • Renewal pays all costs for obtaining a CDL.
Additional Details:
  • Children are in the classroom from 8am-3pm Monday through Thursday. Friday hours would be for trainings, staff meeting, etc. as needed.
  • Route is expected to take about 60 - 90 minutes, but is subject to adjustment based on enrollment.
  • The bus is a short 29 max capacity bus.
  • An aide accompanies the driver on every route.
  • This position is eligible for holiday, sick and personal leave as well as eligible to participate in the retirement program upon meeting the program requirements.
  • Pay: $17.47 per hour, bus driver position may be eligible for monthly incentive payments through June 2025, which could be up to $125 additional per month.

Duties

  • Follow safety rules as students board and exit buses or cross streets near bus stops.
  • Comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Check the condition of a vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in working order.
  • Maintain order among pupils during trips to ensure safety.
  • Pick up and drop off students at regularly scheduled neighborhood locations, following strict time schedules.
  • Report any bus malfunctions or needed repairs.
  • Drive gasoline, diesel, or electrically powered multi-passenger vehicles to transport students between neighborhoods, schools, and school activities.
  • Prepare and submit reports that may include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, mileage, fuel consumption, or fares received.
  • Maintain knowledge of first-aid procedures.
  • Keep bus interiors clean for passengers.
  • Read maps and follow written and verbal geographic directions.
  • Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations, using telephones or mobile two-way radios.
  • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort.
  • Escort small children across roads and highways.
  • Make minor repairs to vehicles.
