Job Responsibilities

In this role, you will be directly responsible for developing and implementing PLC/HMI, DCS, SCADA code, including simulation for testing software and on-site I/O checkout and commissioning at customer sites.


You will also partner with a team of Manufacturing Intelligence, Hardware design, and Industrial IT professionals to deliver comprehensive systems. During these projects, you will become a trusted consultant for Cybertrol’s customers. 


Some examples of specific Automation Engineer responsibilities include:

  • Engage directly with the customer and other engineering firms involved to develop a complete understanding of the requirements and create a Functional Specification of the full deliverable.
  • Maintain customer contact throughout the life of the project.
  • Develop software in a team environment in a modern software framework utilizing an Agile Scrum development process.
  • Ensure that quality processes have been followed.
  • Work independently as required to deliver solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring as required, including system-level thinking and problem-solving techniques.
  • I/O Checkout on-site of industrial control equipment; instrumentation, pneumatics, and 3-phase motors.
  • Working with multiple disciplines and trades during on-site commissioning of projects.


Required Qualifications

  • B.S. OR Associate Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Computer) or related engineering field with 2+ years related and relevant experience in industrial automation.
  • Technical leadership capability to guide and coach team members working on complex projects.
  • Proficient in programming and on-site commissioning of industrial control systems.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Curiosity and agility in problem solving when presented with a new challenge.
  • Passionate when given a challenge to see it through.
  • Willingness to help and service mentality interacting with customers and internal teams.
  • Goal oriented with the strong desire to learn new technologies and concepts.


Experience with the following technologies:

  • PLC/DCS platforms such as Rockwell Automation or Siemens.  
  • HMI/SCADA platforms such as Rockwell Automation, Wonderware, or Ignition.
  • Industrial equipment; VFDs, Instrumentation, Valves, OEM equipment integration, etc.
  • Industrial networks such as Ethernet/IP, IOLink, AS-I, etc.  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS  

Office Work:   

  • Office desk/cubicle environment   
  • Extensive computer use 
  • Occasional Control panel IO powered checkouts in panel shop or customer site   

Site Work:  

  • 10-20% travel to industrial facilities.
  • Overnight travel from a few days to several days at a time. 
  • Ability to consistently lift 50 lbs.  

 On-Site working conditions may include: 

  • Work around industrial equipment and production personnel. 
  • Work at a construction site. 
  • Work in hot or cold areas. 
  • Work in noisy areas. 
  • Work up and down stairs, indoors and outdoors. 
  • Electrical/Instrumentation Device Checkout and Troubleshooting. Includes voltage testing, equipment troubleshooting on a ladder, and light electrical assembly – signal wiring in control panels/instruments.
  • Working and interfacing with operations, engineering, equipment supply, and construction personnel.  

Typical Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) Required: Safety Glasses, Steel Toed shoes, hearing protection, and electrical safety PPE. Employees must comply with Cybertrol Engineering and customer specific requirements and PPE.  

Work may include working weekends, holidays, nightshift, and extended hours to meet deadlines and commissioning requirements. On-site work can be 12 hours/day.
