Job Description:

U.S. Pipe and Foundry is seeking a Senior Electrical Project Engineer in Bessemer, AL. The successful candidate will play a key role in analyzing existing electrical systems and making cost-effective improvements, conducting research, designing testing methods, completing quality assurance, inspecting the equipment, running diagnostics, as well as training new hires.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed budgets, scopes of work, and schedules for capital electrical projects as well as emergency repairs.
  • Ability to design, assist in troubleshooting, and improve control systems and power systems.
  • Create, modify, and document PLC programs, HMI screens and programs, electrical schematic drawings, control cabinet layouts, control networks, single line drawings and power distribution layouts.
  • Ability in managing multiple corporate level projects across different sites simultaneously from concept through construction and commissioning phases.
  • Performs engineering reviews of projects prepared by other engineers.
  • Assist in the development of business unit design standards and specifications.
  • Conduct studies, collects data, and provides detailed engineering calculations to support proposed design solution.
  • Coordinate with plant personnel, vendors, and third-party contractors to ensure projects are safely completed on schedule and as required.
  • Assist in finding new technologies and updating specifications to improve safety, reliability, and processes.
  • Produce detailed updates on project progression, milestones, and critical paths.
  • Locate and analyze historical drawings and specifications for the maintenance and improvement of existing equipment.
  • Ensure proper procedures and documentation for on-site work including Contractor line up, Confined space, Hot work, LOTO, and Safety Behavor Audits.

Skills & Other Requirements:

  • Five years of broad-based engineering experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment is desired, preferably with a steel or foundry company.
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.
  • Knowledge of foundry equipment and procedures, OSHA regulations, environmental regulations, and service resources to the foundry industry.
  • Ability to think logically, strong decision-making skills.
  • Computer literate, able to effectively utilize CAD, MS Office, and project management software.
  • Experienced in the design, installation, and maintenance of low and medium voltage power systems.
  • Experienced in the design, installation, and programming of PLC systems, preferably Allen-Bradley.
  • Experienced in the design, installation, and programming of HMI systems. Panelview, Cimplicity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, ability to present technical data.
