We have an immediate opportunity for a Program Manager for a Utility Construction Project in the Sacramento area. This position supports superintendents and executive management to provide oversight for all phases of utility construction in the Power Industry. The ideal candidate shall have previous program management experience with P&L, scheduling, reporting and coordination responsibilities. We are looking for an individual with a can-do-attitude who thrives on coaching and mentoring employees.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages a team of administrators, associate project managers, field engineers, technicians and construction coordinators.
- Supervises direct reports, manages time off, time sheets and work schedules.
- Submits new job requisitions, negotiates, tracks and gets approval for Change Orders.
- Participates in interviewing prospective team members.
- Provides consistent employee performance evaluations annually.
- Provides exceptional customer service to client construction managers, project managers, and other key client stakeholders.
- Navigates through disputes between client stakeholders for a favorable outcome.
- Continues to foster a positive working relationship with client representatives, local labor unions, government agencies, peers and management.
- Produces incident reports to client representative for minor incidents; such as property damages, equipment damages, public complaints, and negative observation. Leads or actively participates in incident/claims investigations.
- Works with the general public and agencies to receive necessary permitting, permissions, and agreements to perform field work without delay or false starts.
- Develops and maintains schedules for all work activities.
- Coordinates Kick-Off meetings for large projects to develop necessary plans and documentation for executing work on time and on budget.
- Leads or participates in monthly and quarterly performance review presentations to Executive Management.
- Develops and implements mitigation plans to manage risk.
- Works closely with Project Controls to manage budgets for existing work, new work, and Change Orders. Leads or actively participates in cost estimating efforts.
- Manages Sub-Contractor performance for safety, quality, pricing and productivity.
- Reviews, tracks, and approves Sub-Contractor estimates, proposals and on-boarding.
- Reviews and approves project and program purchase order requisitions and invoices.
Education and Experience Required:
- Experience in overseeing construction activities and strong knowledge of construction and utility industry practices.
- Experience with submitting new job requisitions, negotiating, tracking for approval of Change Orders.
- Experience working with the general public and agencies to receive necessary permitting, permissions, and agreements to perform field work without delay or false starts.
- Experience with leading or participating in monthly and quarterly performance review presentations to Executive Management.
- Exposure to industry relevant software and MS Office applications.
- Complex problem-solving skills.
- BS degree in Project Management, Construction Management, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
- 5 to 10 years’ experience required.
