PROJECT SUMMARY
Van Acker Construction (VAC) is looking for aย Senior Construction Managerย / Site Superintendent to join our project team on a high-end, single family residential construction project in San Francisco. This hands-on, field-based position offers immediate continuity: closing out an active project with a new project lined up to begin in early 2027.ย ย 
The ideal candidate will be a team player who is curious and willing to learn while providing strong leadership and organizational skills. They will oversee the scheduling and coordination of the entire project and possess the ability to bring diverse teams together to work toward a common goal. This position requires strong communication skills, forward thinking, leadership, confidentiality, discretion, and diplomacy. Must be capable of running construction projects of up to $60M.
As Construction Managers and General Contractors, Van Acker Construction (VAC) is the firm with overall responsibility for all construction phases and activities on a project. This position is available immediately.
JOB DUTIES
The Senior Construction Managerย / Site Superintendentย is responsible for the overall project direction, scheduling, and completion. The Senior Construction Manager works as a team with other Site Superintendents and the Senior Project Manager toward the overall success of the project.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Manage, coordinate, and supervise the construction processย through final construction on a timely and economical basis, with an eye on quality control
  • Oversee the organization, scheduling, and implementation of the project to execute the designs provided by the PM and design-architectural team; direct various teams to complete the tasks that integrate the building structure, MEP, and landscape systems
  • Coordinate and manage people, materials, and equipment; budgets, schedules, and contracts; and the safety of employees and the public; oversee all activities at the site daily
  • Regularly review engineering and architectural drawings and specifications to monitor progress and ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and prevailing building codes
  • Meet regularly with owners, subcontractors, architects, and other design professionals to monitor and coordinate all phases of the construction project. Interact with city officials and neighbors as needed
  • Observe job conditions and to be alert to changes and potential problems, particularly involving safety on the job site and adherence to regulations

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
  • Minimum twenty-five yearsโ€™ experience in the construction industry, in positions of increasing skills and responsibility; and at least ten years of supervisory and scheduling experience
  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent degree or certificate in construction and engineering, business and administration, or other related classes
  • Capable and experienced in running construction projects with contract values of up to $60M
  • Prior experience in high-end residential construction required
  • Understands contracts, plans, and specifications, and is knowledgeable about construction methods, materials, and regulations; can read engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings
  • Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office Applications, and scheduling tools a must; familiarity with software programs for job costing and estimating is important
  • Applicants must be in good physical condition: must be able to sit, stand, walk the site (uneven surfaces and long distances between structures) and otherwise physically perform all duties of the job
  • Adaptable and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment; decisive and able to work well under pressure, particularly when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays
  • Able to coordinate multiple activities and teams at once, while analyzing and resolving specific problems
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to able to establish a good working relationship with many different people including owners, subcontractors, other site superintendents, design professionals, city officials, and neighbors. Excels at diplomatic negotiations and client relations
  • Maintaining confidentiality is of utmost importance

BENEFITS & COMPENSATION

Base annual salary is $170,000 - $230,000 (DOE), plus annual discretionary bonus. Actual offers will be based on a variety of factors including experience and skill set.
The Senior Construction Manager position is an exempt (salaried) full-time role working from the site field office daily Monday through Friday. Most Senior Construction Managers and Site Superintendents work more than a standard 40-hour week to meet special project deadlines or handle delays, bad weather, or emergencies.
