What is this job?

As an integral member of the Development and Marketing team, the Annual Giving Manager is responsible for the design, execution, and management of a comprehensive annual giving program, including coordination and collaboration with supporting initiatives in the areas of advancement services and donor relations.

This position will oversee direct mail and e-mail solicitation strategies and focus on strategically expanding the Board of Child Care's annual giving program with a goal of significantly increasing the base of annual gifts. Fast-paced and highly variable, this role is best suited for an individual with deft interpersonal skills and collaborative instincts, high adaptability and creativity, strong communicative abilities, and intellectual curiosity.

It is an independent not-for-profit organization that serves over 1,000 children annually across 12 locations.   • In partnership with the Senior Director of Marketing and Development, plan and implement all aspects of Board of Child Care’s annual giving program. Responsible for the creation and routine updating of project plans, as well as providing status updates to key stakeholders on a defined frequency.
  • Design and manage a comprehensive direct mail and online giving program to include quarterly appeals. Coordinate with Development Associate to deploy fundraising e-mails via Raiser’s Edge.
  • In collaboration with the Volunteer Engagement Manager, oversee the annual Red Stocking and Christmas Offering campaign with churches, church groups, and community partners.
  • Perform post-appeal analyses to refine and increase ROI in the future.
  • Support the advancement services team on the preparation of correspondence for annual giving donors, including solicitations, pledge confirmations, and timely gift acknowledgments.
  • Arrange, conduct, and coordinate face-to-face meetings with existing and prospective annual donors. Give campus tours and community presentations, as needed.
  • Plan and manage stewardship and recognition activities for annual giving donors. These may include but are not limited to creating a new donor welcome package or creating annual giving societies.
  • Assist the Senior Director of Marketing and Development in implementing strategies to upgrade existing annual donors to major and/or planned gift donors as part of the Development Team’s moves management program.
  • Manage a portfolio of ~50 mid-range annual giving prospects ($500 - $1,000), cultivating renewals and upgrades through a schedule of strategic engagement, in-person visits, personal phone calls, e-mails, and handwritten notes.
  • Develop coordinated communication and solicitation strategies involving mail, direct mail, email, phone, face-to-face visits, and fundraising volunteers.
  • Submit budgets for annual giving activities, including but not limited to mail house services, postage, subscriptions, etc. Log all invoices for annual giving using the team’s defined workflow.
  • Work with the Senior Director of Marketing and Development to establish revenue goals for the fiscal year and key annual giving activities.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Marketing and Development to establish donor acquisition, retention, and renewal benchmarks, as well as regular reporting processes to measure the results of all annual giving activities.
  • Work effectively with other members of the frontline fundraising team to identify new donors and build strategies for engaging and encouraging donors to give at higher levels.
  • Work closely with Volunteer Engagement Manager to implement a program to engage volunteers in becoming supporters of the annual giving campaign.
  • Implement donor retention and outreach techniques such as but not limited to LYBUNT/SYBUNT phone calls and follow-ups, gift anniversary reminders, messaging segmentation, in-person and virtual meetings, etc.
  • Participate in monthly pipeline meetings with a team of frontline fundraisers.
  • Assist with special projects and events, as needed.
  • Submit donor-centered news, events, and activities to the Marketing Team. Ensure the team has the schedule of key annual giving activities that require promotion on social and on BCC websites.
Is this a full-time position? What are the hours?
  • We are hiring for a full-time (40 hours a week) position with benefits!
  • Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position requires flexible hours to include some evenings.
  • This is an IN-PERSON position on our Baltimore Campus (just off of I-695's Liberty Road exit). After 90 days of strong performance in the role, candidates may, at the discretion of the team's leadership, be eligible for up to one day per week of remote work.

What experience and education do I need?

• Bachelor’s Degree

• At least three years of relevant experience in frontline fundraising.

• A minimum of 1 year of experience in a role that routinely used a fundraising-specific CRM. Board of Child Care uses Blackbaud's NXT product.

• Demonstrated ability to independently manage and direct project objectives via careful operational coordination, planning, and execution.


What does the benefits package look like?

  • Accrue vacation at the rate of 3 weeks per year, plus two floating holidays to use, plus nine paid holidays when BCC is closed. That's over 30 days off earned in your first year!
  • Compensation begins at the $60,000 per year level and may increase from there commensurate with experience.
  • Paid sick and bereavement leave.
  • Up to 3% annual match to retirement contributions (403b).

Other Job Requirements

  • This position requires you to drive BCC vehicles. Must have a valid, active, driver's license with less than 7 points.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
