Description: McGregor Foundation Social Services Summer 2024 Intern

Position: Temporary, part-time

10-week period during May 15-August 15, 2024 window.

Wage: $17/hour

Department: Social Services

Reports to: Social Services Director

Summary: The Medical Social Worker will use generalist practice skills and case management skills to help patients and their families address and resolve the social, financial, and psychological problems related to their health condition and life transitions. Located on-site in-person at McGregor's East Cleveland campus, the Intern role is designed to expose and challenge candidates that is pursuing a bachelor or master’s a degree in social work, counseling or marriage, and family therapy.

Responsibilities and Expected Outcomes:

In collaboration with staff:

  • Performs initial screening and evaluation of patient and families.
  • Conducts comprehensive psychosocial assessment of patients.
  • Helps patient/families adjust to chronic illness, aging and life transitions, possible role changes.
  • Educates patient on the levels of health care (i.e. acute, sub-acute, home care), entitlements, community resources, and advance directives.
  • Promotes communication and collaboration among health care team members.
  • Upholds the standards, ethic, clinical practice, and values of NASW, ACSW, CSWFMT Board, and the organization.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree preferred in social work, counseling or marriage and family therapy.

Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail required.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability and confidence to interact with staff at all levels and external constituents.

Preferred candidates will have the ability to engage multicultural groups including individuals who are psychological, emotionally, and socially destabilized recovering from illness or trauma, domestic violence, substance misuse, and homelessness. Advance knowledge and use of human behavioral theories, generalist practice skills and culture humility when working with diverse groups representing individuals and families from various ethnic, cultural, financial, and educational levels.
