Deputy Sheriff-Court Security

The Davison County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff. The main duty of this position is Court Security. When court security is not required, this position will perform all other duties of a Deputy Sheriff. This Deputy will be responsible for all aspects of courtroom security and duties are at the discretion of the Sheriff and the Presiding Circuit Judge. Duties performed by this position include the following:

• Courtroom security during all court sessions.
• Performing a security sweep of the courtroom before court begins.
• Assisting the jail with transporting inmates from the jail to court.
• Interacting with the Judge and Sheriff to determine the best course of action for security on high profile cases.
• Setting up and working the metal detector before court begins.
• Transporting inmates to other facilities.
• Serving protection orders after being issued by the Judge.

When not in court and acting as a Deputy Sheriff duties will include:

• Conducting patrols for the detection and prevention of crimes.
• Enforcing traffic and criminal laws of the State of SD and federal laws.
• Service of civil process and warrants.
• Investigating crimes, collecting evidence, and submitting evidence for testing.
• Testifying in court as required.
• Completing case reports.
• Any and all other duties assigned by the Sheriff or Chief Deputy.

This position is an hourly position, with a starting pay range of $24.41 to $26.25. It is a full-time position, with normal working hours of 8-4, Monday through Friday. Some evenings and weekends may be required, along with being on call.

Requirements:

• A minimum of a high school education or GED is required.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Required to live in Davison County.
• Be either a currently certified law enforcement officer in the State of South Dakota or be capable of being certified.
• Previous experience working in a jail is a plus.
• Must complete a South Dakota Law Enforcement Application, along with a resume.
