Job description

Description:Position Summary:

Under supervision of the Court Clerk Coordinator, the Court Security Attendant is responsible for performing duties as assigned by the Chief Tribal Court Judge of the Washoe Tribal Court for the protection and safety of court personnel and persons appearing in court. Will require to maintain confidentiality.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

· Attend all Tribal Court hearings, whether daytime or nighttime hearings.

· Adhere to the Washoe Tribe’s Policies and Procedures and Code of Conduct.

· Maintain safe and peaceful decorum of the courthouse, and courtroom proceedings, thereby ensuring the personal safety of judges and court personnel.

· Provide protection for all who enter the courthouse by screening all persons entering the courtroom for weapons, prohibited chemicals, and other contraband.

· Facilitate the flow of persons into and through the courthouse.

· Ensure the confidentiality of closed court proceedings by removing all unauthorized persons from the courthouse.

· Assist the judges and clerks as needed in court proceedings including but not limited to retrieval and sequestration of jurors and witnesses; elimination of distractions and interference with recording equipment; safeguarding evidence when directed.

· Prepare courtroom for hearings and conferences and secure at close of all proceedings.

· Provide assistance to tribal police officers and Court Security Outreach Officer when necessary.

· Develop and maintain a Tribal Judiciary Security Plan.

· Ensure the proper, legal, timely service of civil documents including but not limited to the service of Restraining Orders, Injunctions, Summons and Complaints, and Tribal, State and Federal Court Subpoenas within court premises.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to stand; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in an office building or court setting, as well as on Tribal lands outside of the courtroom with a moderate noise level.

The Washoe Tribe of Nevada & California requires a background check of each new hire for employment purposes. Therefore, all conditionally offered positions will be subject to the following:

  • Negative alcohol and drug screen
  • Meet requirements of Public Law 101-630
  • Obtain or possess a valid driver’s license for either the state of Nevada or California within 30 days
  • Must be insurable under the Washoe Tribe’s driving policy
  • Preference given to qualified Native American Indians.
Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

· Must have High School Diploma or G.E.D and be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.

· Law Enforcement or Security experience preferred.

· Must consent to a physical examination to determine fitness for the position.

· Must have no misdemeanor or gross misdemeanor convictions within one year from the submittal of application. Must have no felony convictions or crimes involving moral turpitude.

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:

· Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.

· Knowledge and skill of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.

· Ability to demonstrate moral character, honesty, tact, fairness, lack of prejudice and desire to help when dealing with people.

· Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action.

· Ability to exercise independent judgment.

· Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules.

· Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.

· Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
