The Corporate Counsel in the Litigation Department leverages knowledge of a legal specialty or area of law to provide advice and recommendations to department leaders on matters within the litigation practice area. The role applies appropriate legal judgment and sound business logic to all caseloads / files and issues. This position provides advice and recommendations for action to more senior attorneys and management regarding matters of intermediate complexity which have or may have a sizable dollar impact on business activities and operations. This position may receive specific direction from management or more senior law professionals as to the outcomes, process and schedules expected.
Responsibilities
- Managing active caseload of files or issues within scope of responsibility. As part of this, perform extensive research of legal principles and precedents, plus consult with outside counsel on legal strategies on particular issues; balancing the allocation of internal and external resources taking into account such factors as, workload, skill base, project schedules, and cost of resources.
- Advising members of legal or organizational management. May assist more senior members of the department on more complex matters, applying appropriate legal judgment and sound business logic.
- Management of direct reports
- Working with and managing outside counsel on legal matters.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education
Required: Master’s/Advanced; JD from accredited law school
Language
Required: English
Experience
Required: 4+ years of relevant legal experience in a variety of legal subjects; prior experience in managing and developing attorneys and staff. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Strong communication, advocacy, and negotiation skills.
Preferred: Prior experience in both law firms and corporate settings; prior experience in the collections or financial industry. Advanced Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
