Summary:

This position assures a supportive role for the teacher by assuring the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of children aged 3-5 through engaging lesson planning and intentional learning environments. The Assistant Teacher supports parent involvement in the development of child and family goals and objectives through case management. Additionally, this position provides support and assistance to the Early Childhood Special Education Program, when needed, to provide collaborative services in the least restrictive environment.

Minimum Requirements:

Experience: 6 months to 2 years of similar or related experience in education or childcare required. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or willingness to acquire within six months of hire. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Education: High School Diploma or GED, must be willing to obtain CDA within 2 years of hire

Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.

Knowledge:

o Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customers and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
o Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
o Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, tribal or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
o Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.

Coordination - Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.
Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
Active Learning - Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making. Selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.
Problem Solving - Identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Reading and Writing Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents. Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.

Abilities:

o Ability to operate general office equipment telephone, computer and operating systems, computer software programs (Microsoft Office programs), fax/copier machine.

o Ability to attend local and out-of-state/out-of-town training periodically to enhance job performance and knowledge.
