Job description

The Crisis Stabilization Specialist provides direct mental health care to non-hospitalized individuals (4 and up) experiencing a mental health crisis that may put their current community living situation at risk. This service provides an emergency response to situations where an individual’s behavior causes a concern for safety.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one behavioral support services to clients experiencing a crisis jeopardizing their current placement.
  • Initiate and facilitate de-escalation techniques and strategies to assist the client in maintaining self-control.
  • Use good interpersonal communication skills to gain client cooperation and resolve conflicts.
  • Interact with all clients in accordance with the individual service plan and the therapeutic process.
  • Assess, evaluate and monitor the safety of the client and others at all times.
  • Exercise appropriate intervention in accordance with the least restrictive alternative to hospitalization.
  • Coordinate closely with other staff and community partners to ensure the appropriateness of treatment modalities and services being provided.
  • Be available for 24 Hour Emergency Crisis Response to assigned participant

Job Requirements

  • Be available to provide services during the day, evening, weekends and holidays.
  • Provide and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Provide services in various types of neighborhoods.
  • Use personal cell phone providing the cell phone number to the program staff, participants, and legal guardians, etc for service delivery.
  • Check Y-CAPP e-mail at least twice daily.
  • Have access to and ability to use a computer, printer, internet services, and other necessary items and equipment to produce electronic program documentation/paperwork.
  • Maintain communication with Program Coordinator and other employees through e-mail and cell phone usage on a daily basis.

Educations and Specifications

Required Qualifications for Mental Health Professional –

Adult (QMHP-A) a person who is trained and experienced in providing psychiatric or mental health services to individuals who have a mental illness credentials:

  • A doctor of medicine licensed in Virginia;
  • A doctor of medicine or osteopathy, specializing in psychiatry and licensed in Virginia;
  • A masters degree in psychology from an accredited college or university with at least one year of clinical experience;
  • A bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field from an accredited college or university and with at least one year of clinical experience providing direct services to persons with a diagnosis of mental illness;
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an unrelated field that includes at least 15 semester credits (or equivalent) in a human service field and who has at least three years of clinical experience;
  • A Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Provider (CPRP) registered with the United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association (USPRA);
  • A registered nurse licensed in Virginia with at least one year of clinical experience; or
  • Any other licensed mental health professional
