Job Description

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR: Assistant Director of Worship Arts

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Serve the church through planning, facilitating and leading worship services. Intentionally develop and encourage volunteers and professional musicians, and create an authentic space for people to worship God with musical excellence and spiritual sensitivity.

CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, Exempt

ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports to the Director of Worship Arts

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

The right candidate has:

A personal, authentic, and growing faith in God and relationship with Jesus

A passion for and commitment to helping the church grow closer to God through congregational worship

A bachelor's degree in music or equivalent experience and knowledge

Experience and fluency in vocally and instrumentally leading communal worship through music

A deep appreciation for the breadth and diversity of musical expression within the Christian faith and a curiosity to explore fresh avenues of worship

Strong skills in musical arranging and comfort with jazz/pop music theory/notation

Mature organizational and communication skills to lead ensemble rehearsals and foster healthy team development

Experience with media production in a live environment

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS PREFERRED:

Experience singing in or directing choirs and other ensembles

Fluency in classical music theory

Knowledge of basic technology, media, and software

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as the primary worship leader for weekly services

  • Lead the worship band and build rapport with the choir
  • Collaborate with Director of Worship Arts (DWA) to choose thematic repertoire and write/arrange parts for the band, choir, and extra instrumentalists

Collaborate with the Worship Planning team (led by the DWA) to help envision/design services, select worship art, and plan yearly calendar of events

Help shape and lead seasonal special events/services during the year

Support the wider music ministries and their respective leaders: chancel choir, bell choir, children's choir, student worship, preschool music, and additional musical outreach opportunities

Collaborate cross-departmentally to build cohesion, trust, and vitality among all staff and ministries of SBPC

Attend and engage in ongoing meetings such as Sermon Study, All-Staff Prayer, Worship Planning, and departmental meetings

Develop initiatives for future periodic worship training workshops and musical internship programs
