Job Summary

The Senior Accountant will have experience with accounting principles and practices related to fixed assets, accrued liabilities, cash flow statements, prepaid expense, and revenue and expense accounts. This individual will prepare and post journal entries, perform account reconciliations, assist in month-end close related to fixed assets, and assist in financial statement preparation, in addition to contributing to monthly reports to the Board. This individual will adhere to GAAP and company accounting policies that include record preparation, research, and reporting related to, but not limited to, general ledger activities, month-end closing activities, reconciliation of accounts as directed, financial-related reports, schedules, and audits.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist Controller and Assistant Controller in reviewing team’s financial close journal entries, reconciliations, and support to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare and/or review assigned balance sheet reconciliations and do necessary research to resolve reconciling items.
  • Prepare and record assigned monthly journal entries timely and accurately to ensure the month end schedule deadlines are met.
  • Review amortization schedules of pre-paid expenses, insurances, etc. and communicate findings to the team.
  • Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule.
  • Work with outside audit firm as needed for the annual audit.
  • Assist with tax audits and tax returns.
  • Support month-end and year-end close process.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles.
  • Provide and hold monthly meetings with department lead/account owners to review monthly budget vs actuals related to expenses.
  • Back-up month-end duties assigned to other Accounting team members.
  • Contribute to various projects working with minimal supervision, including aiding other departments and team members, as directed.

Qualifications – The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate:

  • Competency and experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and integrated accounting systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel including Macros/VBA, PivotTables, advanced formulas.
  • Experience with ERP systems and databases.
  • A vital interest in contributing to the successful achievement of the department's goals.
  • Ability to quickly learn proprietary software and work in cloud-based technology.
  • Eagerness to adapt existing processes to new, improved systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management, initiative, attention to detail, accuracy, and follow through, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills with an ability to explain complex situations in simple terms.
  • Well-developed decision-making, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and accomplish tasks in fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in high-availability network environment carrying tight Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with shifting deadlines.
  • Possess a proactive attitude within the team through mentoring and knowledge sharing.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate cross functionally with other team members at all levels within the organization with a vital interest in contributing to the success of the company’s goals and strategic vision.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner always.
  • Working knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong understanding of economic and banking processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of detailed financial data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of Federal, State, and Local tax compliance regulations and reporting.

Working Conditions

  • Indoor office working environment with prolonged sitting.
  • Hybrid work schedule with in-office and at-home workdays. Schedule may vary depending on business needs.

Other Requirements

  • Minimum 4-6 years' related experience and or public accounting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, preferred.
  • Current CPA or CPA candidate, preferred.
  • Understanding of GAAP; knowledge in CFR Part 32, a plus.
  • Experience in Telecommunications industry, a plus.
  • Experience with SAGE, Global Software, Altec DocLink Workflow & Document Software, a plus.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
