This position is an hourly, non-exempt position responsible to oversee the day-to-day compliance of our radiological surveillance program and the activities of the HP Technicians to ensure activities are conducted in a safe manner in accordance with the Radiation Protection Program.


DUTIES: Include but are not limited to:

· Ensure that all Health Physics personnel assigned activities are conducted in accordance with the Radiation Protection program and as directed by the Radiation Safety Officer.

· Ensure that Health Physics personnel tasks and the tasks of other personnel being monitored are conducted in a manner consistent with maintaining radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA).

· Supervise assigned task relative to surveying and monitoring radiation and/or contamination to ensure compliance with safety and approved procedures.

· Recognize the hazards associated with the work to be performed and supervise the preparation, issuance, and termination of radiological permits.

· Supervise the performance of Health Physics personnel and provide instruction as needed in all areas of plant concerns to ensure quality on-the-job training.

· Review all radiological documentation to ensure documentation is complete, accurate and legible.

· Continually build personal skills relative to Health Physics practices, supervisory functions, and proficiency in other departmental supervisory responsibilities.

· Provide support to all other plant departmental supervisors in the performance of their assigned tasks.

· Report directly to the Radiation Safety Officer /Assistant Radiation Safety Officer for technical matters.

· Maintain all radiological, environmental, calibration and source documentation as required by the Low Level and Mixed Waste Operating Manual(s) and WDOH license.

· Assist with the continued training and qualification of the HP Technicians and yourself.

· Implement the day-to-day Radiological Scheduled Routine Control program and Job Coverage surveillance using air sampling, radiation surveys, contamination surveys and lab analysis.

· Immediately report any unsafe condition or act which could lead to or cause a violation of regulatory requirements, license conditions, or unnecessary radiation exposure to the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and/or Plant Manager.

· Must be capable of lifting 45 lbs. and carrying portable instrumentation in the work area(s).

· Personal protective equipment (PPE) use, which may include wearing respiratory protection, e.g.; Air Purifying Respirators (APR/PAPR), Supplied Air systems and Self-Contained Beathing Apparatus (SCBA).

· Assist in accident, emergency response/ follow-up recovery; may include decontamination of personnel, tools, equipment, or work environment.

· The ability to perform a facility training segment, e.g.; Respirator/SCBA usage and Radiation Worker training.

· Other duties as may be directed by the Plant Manager or Radiation Safety Officer/Assistant Radiation Safety Officer. Attend and actively participate in plan of the day meetings. Review radiological, industrial hygiene and safety criteria of work plans. Ask questions and identify facets of the work that involve HP Technicians to determine best use of resources.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Will work outside in all weather conditions and inside in an industrial-type environment. The percentage of the work day spent with the following movements in a work day shift: Sitting (15%), standing (50%), walking (30%), bending (5%), and arms above head (<1%). Some work locations require wearing PPE (described in first section).

Requirements:

· High school diploma or equivalent

· BS degree or equivalent experience/certifications.

· Two or more years of experience in applied Health Physics preferred waste handling and waste management experience.

· Must be able to wear respiratory protection on occasion (includes fit test and physical).

· Ability to perform collateral health and safety duties commensurate with qualifications, aptitude, and ability (including job coverage, monitoring and surveillance).

· Must have the ability to clearly and effectively communicate both written and verbal with all staff in a professional manner.

· Hazardous Materials Worker Trained, first aid, and emergency response.

· Basic computer skills
