Job Description

Title: Assistant Property Manager (Juntos Fruitvale)

Reports To: Property Manager

Department: Property Management

Location: Oakland, CA

Schedule: Monday through Friday

Travel: Local travel may be required

Salary: $25.00-$30.00 DOE

Employee Status: Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt

Our programs aim to provide the community with the tools, knowledge, and resources to transform their lives and ultimately achieve their long-term educational, career, and financial goals. These holistic programs and services reach more than 11,000 individuals and families annually in five languages. Programs include: early childhood education, youth mentorship and leadership development, employment services, career readiness training, housing and financial stability, senior citizen services, affordable housing and neighborhood development, and arts and cultural events. Our work expands beyond the Fruitvale district and now reaches across Oakland and into Concord. The Unity Council employs a diverse workforce of more than 340 people who reflect the linguistic, cultural, and ethnic identity of the communities we serve.


Position Summary

As an Assistant Property Manager at Juntos Fruitvale, our non-profit-owned hub, you will be fundamental to the daily operations and management of our unique facilities. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Property Manager to ensure the smooth functioning of our spaces, including coworking areas and event venues. Your responsibilities will encompass various aspects of property management, customer service, and outreach efforts aimed at fostering community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Support Property Manager in the leasing process, including showing available units to prospective tenants, processing applications, and conducting background checks.
  • Coordinate move-ins and move-outs, conduct inspections and ensure units are in optimal condition.
  • Address tenant concerns and inquiries promptly and professionally, striving to maintain positive tenant relations.
  • Assist with rent collection and maintain accurate records of payments and delinquencies.
  • Conduct regular property inspections and identify maintenance and repair needs.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for property repairs and maintenance.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of property marketing strategies to attract and retain tenants.
  • Outreach and follow-up on marketing leads to maximized occupancy and community involvement.
  • Oversee janitorial staff to ensure cleanliness and maintenance standards are met.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures for Juntos Fruitvale as needed.
  • Maintain booking software for event spaces and coworking areas, ensuring accurate scheduling and availability.
  • Perform front desk reception duties, including greeting visitors, answering inquiries, and managing incoming calls.
  • Provide excellent customer service to tenants, visitors, and community members.
  • Prepare reports and assist with budgeting and financial management.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in property management or related field preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency in property management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of landlord-tenant laws and Fair Housing regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in community outreach and engagement.
  • Familiarity with event coordination or venue management.
  • Understanding of sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.

Essential Functions

  • Must be PC literate; MS Office skills (Word and/or Excel).
  • Regularly required to operate standard office equipment (personal computer, photocopy machine, adding machine, fax machine, etc.).
  • Ability to work on a computer 8 hours a day as needed.
  • Regularly required to sit and stand for long periods of time and ability to walk up and down stairs.
  • Close vision required for computer usage.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, climb, and lift up to 25 pounds.
