NATURE OF WORK: The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for technical design, planning, implementation and performance, tuning and recovery procedures for systems and other physical and virtual servers, SAN/NAS, VOIP/cell phone apps and other critical applications. This position is also responsible for recommending redesign of operating systems, applications and plans, researching and analyzing system requirements and developing system specifications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage the daily operations of the virtual, physical servers and SAN/NAS by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair; ensure that records of system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained.
  • Apply revisions to host system firmware and software.
  • Work with vendors to assist with support and maintenance, to get quotes and negotiate costs.
  • Perform and monitor daily server backup and weekly off-site rotation and disaster recovery.
  • Manage the SQL server infrastructure.
  • Develop new system and application implementations, custom scripts and testing to ensure reliability.
  • Manage the Exchange email systems, including virus scanning, spam filtering, list creation, and defragmentation.
  • Establish guidelines and methods for the installation and management of the host computer operating systems, disk arrays, fiber channel switches, off site storage and other components.
  • Ensure high availability and acceptable levels of performance of critical host computer resources.
  • Manage the data center and computer host systems including hardware, software and equipment such as air-conditioning system, UPS (uninterrupted power system) and fire protection system
  • Apply revisions to host system firmware and software.
  • Develop procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature and user abuse.
  • Develop procedures, programs and documentation for backup, restoration and disaster recovery of host operating systems and host-based applications.
  • Responsible for system best practices and maintenance.
  • Work with management on strategic initiatives.
  • Assist with staff training on hardware/applications for usage, operating and maintenance.
  • Identify and provide project leadership and supervision of service to departments, assist in the supervision of the IT technical staff and work as a mentor for advancing knowledge and experience.
  • Develop and coordinate project directions and schedules to maximize benefits and minimize impacts on the organization.
  • Provide leadership in planning and implementation of projects for computer operations and enterprise systems administration.
  • Monitor the data center and computer host systems including hardware, software and equipment such as air-conditioning system, UPS (uninterrupted power system) and fire protection system.
  • Stay current with technological developments in systems administration technology and recommend ways for the organization to take advantage of new technology.
  • Prepare and research new system and application implementation plans, scripts and testing procedures.
  • Demonstrate, supervise and instruct on Windows System Administration and programming using Microsoft PowerShell or equivalent scripting language.
  • Develop procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature and user abuse.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of System Administration and using Microsoft PowerShell or equivalent scripting language.
  • Knowledge of the security issues of the Microsoft operating system and the ability to correct them.
  • Knowledge of VOIP technology including Cisco.
  • Knowledge of Blackberry and MDM.
  • Knowledge of the unique needs of tribal organizations.
  • Knowledge of tribal sovereignty.
  • Ability to operate personal computers and demonstrate proficiency with Internet resources and networked environments.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and assimilate new information quickly.
  • Ability to install and maintain Windows Server Operating Systems.
  • Ability to administer and supervise all aspects of Exchange Server electronic email.
  • Ability to administer and supervise all Blackberry and MDM Solutions
  • Ability to demonstrate strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and harmonious working relationships with a variety of staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperation, understanding, trust and credibility.
  • Ability to demonstrate vision for and dedication to the role of a computer network with a large environment.
  • Ability to match technical opportunities to Tribal goals.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or direction.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in rotation on-call support including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to frequently lift/move items up to 25lbs and to occasionally lift/move items up to 75 lbs. required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with managers, clients, customers and the Tribal community.
  • Ability to plan, organize and document complex system design activities and to configure systems to be consistent with institutional policies/procedures.
  • Ability to communicate technical/complex information both verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field OR equivalent combination of professional experience and/or education.
  • 5 years of experience with server and storage hardware, software, including VMware, IMB Server and Storage Systems, Windows, Linux.
  • Must have VOIP technology experience, preferably Cisco.
  • MCSE Certification preferred.
  • VMWare VCP Certification preferred.
