Position Summary

The Water Park Lifeguard is responsible for guarding their area of responsibility, responding to any level of incident, enforcing and following JCC policies and procedures, checking and maintaining pool chemicals, being responsive to member and guest questions, ensuring member safety and other tasks assigned by the Water Park Director. The Water Park Lifeguard season is from May 30th – Labor Day.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain constant surveillance and visually scan assigned area of responsibility
  • Provide general information on pool operations to members. Caution swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards, enforce pool rules and regulations at all times
  • Know and follow the established EAP when necessary
  • Respond to all illness and injury incidents around the entire pool facility immediately and appropriately. This includes, but not limited to performing Lifeguarding skills, First Aid, CPR, and other appropriate skills until arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Recognize and rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and orderly pool, deck, Aquatics Office, and Locker rooms. Inspect facilities regularly and report any unsafe conditions/equipment to Water Park Director immediately.
  • Perform pool chemical checks at designated times.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures as directed
  • Assist in keeping accurate records of pool usage, chemical levels, pool closures, etc.
  • Attend and participate in all mandatory monthly Staff Meetings and Trainings.
  • Communicate effectively with other lifeguards, maintenance staff, and Water Park MOD’s
  • Actively promotes and practices the organization’s Positive Rules of Communication.
  • Performs other duties and assume additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Must be 15 years or older
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (onsite training available)

Physical Demands

  • Outdoor environment
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Work Environment

This job has both indoor and outdoor work environments. Some days might experience extreme weather conditions. Camp Counselors should be prepared to work in a variety of different weather conditions.
