Water Maintenance Technician

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A WATER MAINTENANCE TEHNICIAN

As a Water Maintenance Technician, you spend your day involves maintaining grounds and landscaping, responding to customer complaints, transporting sludge, assisting other crews, performing equipment and vehicle maintenance and repair. Your work typically is to perform manual labor duties related to the repair, maintenance, and construction of many City structures. Your job is essential to the city, and you often operate construction related equipment that will assist in maintaining grounds and landscaping. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include assisting with traffic control direction, set up traffic signs, cones and utilize flags to manually direct traffic. When you are not out in the city, you generally participate in maintaining facility's landscape and overall structure. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed. The city needs someone like you with skills in maintenance and operation of water systems, maintaining grounds, and landscaping and you finding genuine enjoyment in what you do!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A WATER MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

  • Required Education: High school diploma, GED or equivalency
    • Education Preference: "B" or "A" Certification in Surface Water or "B" Water Distribution License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
  • Required Work Experience: No experience required
    • Experience Preference: One (1) year of water line maintenance and repair.
  • Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
  • Achieve Class "B" CDL from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record with a tank endorsement within (1) first year of employment.
  • Achieve TCEQ Class "D" Water Distribution License within (1) first year of employment.
  • Achieve TCEQ Class "C" Water Distribution License within (3) three years of employment.
