Human Factors Engineer

Overview: The United States Coast Guard (USCG) Ship Design & Systems Engineering Division (CG-459), Human Systems Integration (HSI) Division (CG-1B), and Surface Forces Logistics Center Engineering Services Division (SFLC-ESD) provides complete life cycle management of surface assets from concept development through disposal. This includes tasks relating to the acquisition of new cutters and boats, maintenance and upgrade of existing assets, management and maintenance of vessel configuration and performance characteristics, and engineering and design support services.

Job Summary: Provide human factors engineering functions for detailed work, from concept phase to contract design. Conduct research, development, design, testing, and modeling functions to build design standards and incorporate Human Systems Integration (HSI). Work with stakeholders to identify areas in ship design that need improvement and increased consideration for HIS.

Requirements: SECRET Clearance is required.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in relevant field such as human factors engineering, behavioral science, industrial ergonomics, cognitive ergonomics, cognitive psychology, and engineering psychology.
• 3 to 8 years' experience applying Human Systems Integration (HSI) in a system design environment.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience working on HSI issues in marine environment.

Essential Duties:

• Conduct studies of ship systems and spaces to factor human interaction
• Incorporate recommendations into ship specifications and design

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Experience related to federal ship or boat building acquisition programs preferred.
• Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs preferred.
