Embalmer

The Embalmer reports to the Location Manager and is responsible for properly performing the embalming of human bodies, preparation/ cosmetology/dressing/casketing and preparing for transport. Other responsibilities entail scheduling of removal technicians for removals. An Embalmer may perform other funeral-related duties as needed or requested by management. Attendance at monthly staff meeting is expected.
The Embalmer’s duties must be performed consistent with company mission and values and adherence to company policies and procedures.
At times the Prep-Room Supervisor will report directly to the RVP in regard to Facility needs/Equipment needs. Work with the RVP to maintain budget goals.
Essential Functions and Competencies
- Care for deceased in a respectful manner while performing a variety of tasks which include: embalming, removals and transfers, cosmetology, dressing, hairstyling, and any other preparation required for human remains
- Adhere to all professional, municipal, state/provincial and federal licensing authority regulations applicable to embalming and preparing human remains
- Create and maintain an Embalming report for all deceased prepared, ensuring that all company removal paperwork is completed accurately.
- Keep and Maintain a log of all deceased in their care as well as those transferred from our care.
- Promote a safe work environment be being aware of and practicing universal precautions and adopting general principles of safe conduct
- Assist with maintenance of preparation room and the facility; receive and maintain inventory for caskets and other funeral home supplies

Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a diploma training program at a college or technical school specializing in funeral service or mortuary science
- Valid current license to embalm in the state/province they wish to work
- Valid current driver’s license required if performing removals and transfers of bodies
- Previous customer service and/or sales experience would be a definite asset
- Knowledge of computers and some software would be an asset, or willingness to learn
- Above average communication skills
