POSITION PURPOSE:

Aviva Health is currently recruiting a Physician and Director of Osteopathic Education to join our team.

In partnership with CHI Mercy Medical Center, Aviva Health serves as the family medicine practice site for the Roseburg Family Medicine Residency Program. Founded in 1991, Aviva Health is an independent Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that cares for the people of Douglas County by providing high-quality, patient-centered, accessible, and affordable care. We are supported by a clinical care team including primary care behavioral health, outpatient behavioral health, dieticians, dental, and an SDOH social worker.

The Roseburg Family Medicine Residency is a new 8-8-8 community-based, unopposed program currently recruiting for our third class. We are a partnership between Aviva Health and CHI Mercy Health with academic sponsorship through OPTI-West. Our mission is to train exceptional family physicians who are ideally suited for rural practice in the 21st Century. Our program focuses on preparing residents for rural practice and care of the underserved. In addition, we have an emphasis on community medicine, lifestyle medicine and addiction medicine. 4 of our current residents are osteopaths and we are currently working on obtaining Osteopathic Recognition. We have an active Osteopathic Principles and Practice clinic.

Douglas County stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Cascade Range and world-class outdoor activities are within a couple of hours or less of the county seat, Roseburg. The coast is roughly an hour west, dozens of waterfalls and hiking trails are minutes away and the rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and streams are some of the best fisheries in the Pacific Northwest. Additional activities include snow skiing, camping, dune riding, fishing, and biking. Position Responsibilities:

Duties include teaching, mentoring, advising, and supervising residents including overseeing resident scholarly activity, quality improvement, ensuring the quality of didactic and clinical education, and working directly with residents to ensure appropriate milestone development. A commitment to training future family physicians to deliver quality health services to patients of diverse cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds. A minimum of 0.4 FTE time will be assigned to full-spectrum ambulatory patient care to the underserved population of Douglas County.


Osteopathic Director Responsibilities:

    • Philosophical and practical approach to patient management and treatment, including osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), based on an understanding of body unity, self-healing and self-regulatory mechanisms, and the interrelationship of structure and function.
    • Administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating residents in OPP and the ACGME.
    • Develop the OPP curriculum and evaluation system.
    • Teach designated osteopathic residents the application of Osteopathic Principles and Practice and engage in osteopathic professional development applicable to their responsibilities as an educational leader.
    • Oversee and ensure the quality of osteopathic didactic and clinical education.

Position Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited osteopathic medical school.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Family Medicine Residency.
  • BE/BC through the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) specialty certifying board, or similar osteopathic qualifications.
  • Requisite osteopathic expertise and documented educational and administrative experience
  • Professional clinical experience in Family Practice, including adult and pediatric
  • Current unencumbered licensure in the state of Oregon or license-eligible to practice medicine in Oregon.
  • Holds current unencumbered DEA license.
  • CPR certification.
  • Current board certification by the American Osteopathic Association
  • (AOA) or the American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine (AOBFM);.


Ability to commute/relocate: Roseburg, OR 97470: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)
