About This Role

The Human Resource Generalist will run the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices. This position will act as a liaison between management and employees, ensuring compliance with employment laws and promoting a positive work culture. Additionally, they may handle tasks related to onboarding, training, performance management, and HRIS maintenance.

This position has a social justice component that will require critical thinking around how the external systems impact the work that we are doing through the lens of racism and intersections with poverty. Knowing the core principals of antiracism work and grounding those principles in everyday work, as well as working well in non-white environments and championing anti-racism policy, are required job skills and core values. Essential Functions:

  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Manage employee inquiries, concerns, and disputes, serving as a liaison between management and union representatives to resolve issues effectively.
  • Conduct investigations into employee complaints, grievances, and disciplinary matters, ensuring fair and consistent treatment in accordance with union contracts and company policies.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Serves as backup to payroll leader including work with Lost Time. (Work with Payroll will be at least 8-12 hours/week)
  • Sets up new employee information in the HRIS system. Assist in collecting timesheets.
  • Completes monthly reports for HR Director via HRIS system.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, and employment law.
  • Incorporates the Race Social Justice Initiative by understanding how racism, sexism, classism and other oppressions intersect and are embedded in institutions.
  • Continues search for understanding of racial, gender and class equity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field, preferred.
  • 5 years of Human Resources experience (with two years being in payroll processing).
  • Experience in HRIS reporting.
  • Union experience preferred.
  • SHRM-CP a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time, exempt position. As a Full-Time, Exempt employee you are not eligible for overtime. Hours of operation will depend on what you and your supervisor agree to. Must have flexibility in schedule during extended business hours allowing stakeholders to access services. From time to time, the Human Resources Generalist may be expected to participate in Union activities outside of normal business hours, including weekends and after-hours.
  • This position is 75% remote, 25% at HQ Seattle. The position is normally required to be in the office at least two (2) days weekly, or when needed (based on business needs). Department Director has the ability to depict work schedules.

Compensation:

This position is full-time, exempt. This position is not included in the Bargaining Unit. Pay ranges from $81,432 – $102,692 per year. Benefits include vacation, holiday, and sick leave benefits, fully employer paid health, dental, vision, and life insurance, defined benefit pension plan, and optional 401(k), WFH credit, and more.
