Project Surveyor


Reports To: Project Manager

Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt


Primary Areas of Focus

Core Responsibilities

  • Read and understand complex surveying standards and terminology, field data, legal descriptions, deeds, and property descriptions.
  • Mentor and develop less experienced team members in project stationing, note keeping and sketching, setting survey monuments, property survey needs, and other survey tasks as needed.
  • Understand the liabilities and risks of a project.
  • Advanced in Civil 3D and office CAD systems to create survey files. 
  • Accurately prepare complex plats, subdivision maps, condominium maps, plot plans, legal exhibits, and legal descriptions with direction.
  • Responsible for client coordination.
  • Identify conflicts, unusual data points,
  • Responsible for paying close attention to schedules and budgets and reporting any issues to the Project Manager.
  • Awareness of crew’s schedules is critical to understand. May be responsible for scheduling crews.
  • Resolve any issues in the field or office and notify the Project Manager or client when necessary.
  • Ability to handle project changes.
  • Cultivate strong client and public relations. 
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external project teams. 
  • Engage in daily communication with Project Manager, Crew Chiefs, and Engineers, as needed and within time service expectations.
  • Responsible for client coordination.
  • Update CAD standards/templates.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of company standards and processes. 
  • Perform boundary, ALTA/NSPS surveys, topographic surveys, and construction staking. 
  • Assist in the direction and coordination of team members as requested by the Project Manager.
  • Assist with business development as requested by the Project Manager.
  • May be responsible for performance management for survey staff. If applicable will work closely with the Project Manager to understand the expectations.
  • Responsibility to meet project task targets and for completing projects on time. 
  • Interact with team, clients, and vendors professionally, care for the EPS Group brand and culture, 
  • Responsible for completing personal timecards accurately and timely, and review timecards of assigned field crews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Achieve a 75-85% Billable Utilization Rate. Non-billable activities include company & team meetings, professional development, community involvement, innovation time, culture & engagement activities, learning, and training.

 

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 8 years of survey experience.
  • Demonstrate advanced understanding of boundary, topographic, ALTA surveys, plats, structural, architectural, and civil engineering plans.
  • Demonstrate advanced understanding of construction plans, layouts, and topographic surveys.
  • May have Land Surveying Intern/In Training (LSI) certification or higher-level certification may be substituted, may or may not be a Professional Land Surveyor.
  • Proficient in Civil 3D, Microsoft Office, and Bluebeam.
  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Requires a regular and normal range of hearing.
  • Must be able to lift 100 when performing fieldwork.
  • Requires prolonged sitting with 15% of the time spent bending and reaching during office work and prolonged standing with a significant amount of time spent bending, squatting, and reaching when working in the field.
  • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
  • Noise levels are consistent with a standard office environment when working in an However, when working in the field, noise levels vary from ambient outdoor levels to those requiring ear protection.
  • Able to sit for an extended period while in transit to job sites.
  • This position may require outdoor work, ranging from extreme heat to below freezing temperatures and the potential for uneven terrain.
