Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a diligent and organized Steward to join our team. The Steward will play a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the kitchen and dining areas. You'll be working alongside our Executive Chef and Sous Chef and play a crucial role in keeping the place sparkling clean and ensuring that our guests have a great experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to ensuring a sanitary and efficient working environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:

  • Dishwashing and Cleaning:
    • Operate and maintain the dishwashing equipment, ensuring all dishes, utensils, and kitchenware are cleaned and sanitized.
    • Wash pots, pans, and cooking utensils following established procedures.
    • Keep kitchen and dining areas clean and orderly, including sweeping and mopping floors.
  • Utensil and Equipment Maintenance:
    • Inspect, clean, and properly restaurant kitchen equipment such as blenders, grills, and ovens.
    • Report any malfunctioning equipment or maintenance needs promptly.
  • Waste Management:
    • Dispose of kitchen waste and recyclables in accordance with waste management guidelines.
    • Monitor and maintain waste disposal areas in a clean and organized manner.
  • Assistance to Kitchen Staff:
    • Support kitchen staff by assisting in the preparation of basic food items or mise in place.
    • Ensure that all kitchen areas are well-stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Compliance with Health and Safety Standards:
    • Adhere to health and safety regulations, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals.
    • Report any safety hazards or concerns to the supervisor.

Required Skills / Abilities / Competencies:

  • Proven experience as a Steward, Dishwasher, or similar role in a hospitality or food service setting.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining cleanliness standards.
  • Team player with good communication skills.
  • Promote the culture, values, and mission of Restaurant K.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience cleaning a commercial kitchen is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to acquire a valid Texas Food Handler Card within thirty (30) days of hiring.
  • To inspire people to embrace different cultures of the world.

Work Environment:

  • This job entails frequent exposure to high temperatures and extreme cold. There is frequent contact/immersion of hands in water and sanitation solutions; and contact with produce items, dairy products, and frequent allergen-related items such as nuts, citrus, peanut butter, cinnamon, etc.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
  • May be requested to work weekends for special events.
  • Must be able to work safely in a noisy area.

Physical Requirements:

  • Be able to reach, bend, and frequently lift 30 pounds.
  • Must have the stamina to work a minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • Must be able to stand for periods of up to eight (8) hours.
  • Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds at a time.
