Health Information Management Director

In Hospital Position - Full Time - Days

Job Summary:

Health Information Management (HIM) Director is responsible for managing and securing patient records. Position will continuously be analyzing, and protecting digital and traditional medical information vital to providing quality patient care. The HIM Director will work with computers and software to comply with federal mandates for electronic storage of patient information. Responsible to monitor the release of information, record processing, physician's documentation, scanning, coding/abstracting and transcription services.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Supervises the following positions: HIM or Medical Records Clerks / Technicians

Position Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Current, valid, and active RHIT (Registered Health Information Tech) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) Certification by the American Health Management Information Association, REQUIRED
• Minimum one (3) years of supervisor and/or managerial level experience

Key Responsibilities / Job Accountabilities:

• Plan and direct the health information management service areas, ensuring compliance with professional, state and federal regulatory requirements.
• Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures to meet quality requirements and addresses all appropriate standards/requirements of The Joint Commission, and other regulatory bodies.
• Manages patient records while continuously monitoring and ensuring privacy of patient.
• Evaluating, and reporting areas of improvement with documentation to departmental leaders.
• Monitors, reports and educates employees on HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Privacy to employees
• Report HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Privacy violations as per facility guidelines.
• Oversees implementation and adherence to the HIM compliance and clinical documentation requirements.
• Plans, directs, organizes and manages the activities of the HIM department according to facility guidelines and Medical Staff Bylaws, and Rules and Regulations.
• Fosters a professional rapport with medical staff and leadership.
