SUMMARY:

Azamara is seeking an innovative, passionate, detail oriented, and organized Controller to help evolve and propel our team during a time of exciting growth.

Responsible for all aspects of the accounting function for the company globally. The role oversees the establishment and maintenance of the Company’s accounting policies/positions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Guides the team to establish systems of internal controls and processes/procedures to ensure its general ledger and supporting records are maintained in accordance with internal policies and external regulations.
Sets the strategy and provide direction on accounting activities including accounts payable, cash application, credit & collections, fixed assets, payroll, revenue accounting, shipboard financial operations, shoreside hotel and marine accounting, corporate accounting, and general ledger maintenance. Works with the AVP of Accounting to ensure timely and accurate monthly financial closes of the general ledger along with the timely dissemination of financial information. Serves as key advisor to the CFO.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING: (Job Duties)
  • Direct ownership of all accounting aspects for the company, domestic and internationally, supporting both internal business unit and external service provider financial transactions.
  • Oversee accounting staff to ensure the timely and accurate financial monthly closes of the general ledger along with the timely dissemination of financial information and statements for management, the board of directors, and external parties.
  • Establishes the company’s accounting policies and manages accordingly.
  • Oversees the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and serves as the primary contact with external auditors and regulatory agencies for quarterly reviews and annual audit of financial statements and for any work necessary to obtain consents and comfort letters.
  • Oversees operational accounting processes, including receivables, payment processing, and accounts payable, including the respective information systems utilized in these processes, to ensure timely and accurate processing/reporting of transactions in accordance with policies.
  • Oversees the establishment and execution of effective internal controls. Monitors and ensures timely identification of issues and works with the relevant business groups to document and ensure proper accounting.
  • Continuously evaluates processes/controls to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Actively participates in executive level meetings to offer key accounting considerations for strategic initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as required.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR: (Requirements)
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, advanced educational degree (i.e. Macc) preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in active/good standing.
  • 10+ years of work experience with a track record of managerial responsibility, preferably with a public company and Big 4 public accounting experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of work experience as a Controller in prior role.
  • Expert knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Successful track record of establishing and monitoring internal controls as part of ensuring GAAP compliance.
  • Experience with international accounting standards, including foreign currency accounting.
  • Experience with Tax, Audit, and Risk Management functions preferred.
  • Experience leading large teams of geographically dispersed individuals.
Travel & leisure industry background preferred
