Job description

Metric Engineering is seeking an Assistant Controller to support the Financial Controller in overseeing core accounting, financial reporting, and internal control activities for multiple companies. This position combines hands-on accounting responsibilities with review, analysis, process improvement, and cross-functional coordination.
The Assistant Controller will play a key role in the monthly and year-end close, account reconciliations, management reporting, audit and tax support, and the continued development of reliable accounting processes. The successful candidate will be organized, analytical, and comfortable working across multiple entities, accounting bases, and operational teams.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Close and Reporting
  • Lead and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities, including the closing checklist, journal entries, financial statements, and supporting schedules
  • Review general ledger activity and analyze month-to-month and year-over-year variances, investigating unusual balances and recommending corrections
  • Prepare or review assigned closing entries, account schedules, assessments, and other designated financial analyses
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, management reporting, audits, proposal-related financial information, and other assigned analyses
Reconciliations and Internal Controls
  • Prepare, review, and perform quality-control reviews of balance sheet, bank, intercompany, and other account reconciliations across multiple companies
  • Review, reconcile, and resolve discrepancies between subledgers, supporting schedules, and the general ledger, including aged, unusual, unsupported, or unreconciled balances, while strengthening related documentation and controls
Systems, Process Improvement, and Leadership
  • Lead accounting projects involving account cleanup, process improvement, standardization, reconciliation tools, workpapers, checklists, and procedures
  • Provide backup coverage for designated accounting functions, including banking, revenue, billing, receivables, and intercompany activities, as needed to support continuity and segregation of duties
  • Use Deltek Vantagepoint and related systems to analyze transactions, validate financial data, improve reporting, and strengthen controls
  • Support the Financial Controller and work closely with the other Assistant Controller to address priorities, communicate risks, and maintain appropriate segregation of duties
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • CPA certification or active progress toward certification preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Experience in the architecture, engineering, professional services, or project-based consulting industry preferred
  • Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or a comparable enterprise resource planning system preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience developing financial schedules and reconciliations
