Position Overview
The Service Controller leads all accounting operations for the Service division, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting. This role oversees the month-end close process, revenue recognition, balance sheet integrity, intercompany accounting, and internal controls while managing a team responsible for operational accounting functions.
The Service Controller also plays a key leadership role in strengthening accounting processes and driving the digital transformation of service accounting systems, including the implementation and optimization of NetSuite.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Close & Reporting Integrity
Lead the Service division month-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. Oversee revenue recognition, accruals, intercompany activity, and balance sheet reconciliations while maintaining a disciplined close calendar and documented procedures.
Revenue Recognition & Accounts Receivable Oversight
Ensure service revenue is properly recognized in accordance with GAAP, and the billing processes operate effectively. Oversee accounts receivable, unbilled balances, bad debt reserves, and amortization schedules while partnering with operational leaders to maintain healthy billing and collection cycles.
Balance Sheet & Intercompany Management
Maintain the integrity of the Service division balance sheet related accounts through disciplined reconciliation processes and oversight of key accounts including deferred revenue, warranty reserves, WIP, inventory, and intercompany balances.
Operational Accounting & Inventory Oversight
Provide financial oversight of operational accounting functions including inventory management, cycle count processes, and reserve methodologies to ensure accurate valuation and reporting.
Audit, Compliance & Internal Controls
Serve as the primary accounting liaison for the service segment for all external audits while ensuring strong internal controls and compliance with GAAP across the service accounting segment.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead and develop a team of four accounting professionals responsible for service accounting operations, including staff accountants and accounts receivable leadership. Establish clear accountability, review journal entries and reconciliations, and drive continuous improvement in close efficiency, documentation, and process discipline.
Digital Transformation & Systems Leadership
Support the implementation and optimization of NetSuite and related financial systems. Drive process automation, improve system controls, and reduce reliance on manual spreadsheets while ensuring clean financial data flows into FP&A reporting and analytics. Molo and adaptive
Requirements
  • 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong background in revenue recognition, WIP accounting, and operational accounting preferably in the marina industry
  • Experience managing accounting teams
  • ERP implementation experience (NetSuite preferred)
  • Strong GAAP knowledge and audit experience
  • Process-oriented with a systems and controls mindset
  • CPA preferred
