Job Description:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) top priorities include providing the highest level of care within a welcoming environment while fostering support for the physical, emotional, and intellectual needs of our residents.
Responsibilities:
- The CNA will work under the direction of the RN and LPN and will serve as a member of a nursing team with a written assignment.
- Provide patient care to residents whose care may be impacted by psychiatric, medical, and geriatric conditions.
- Report results from enema administration by licensed nursing staff.
- Personal patient care including bathing, feeding, grooming, and mobilizing with demonstration of skills which reflect the needs of the older adult.
- Administer prescribed medications to patients.
- Work in all assignment areas within the AFRH including: Ambulatory Care, Assisted Living Unit (ALU), Dementia, and Long-term Care Unit (LTCU) areas.Sterilize and prepare medical tools and equipment.
- Collection and preparation of urine and stool specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Provide companionship and basic care to patients.
- Maintain a clean and healthy environment.
- Escort residents to appointments off the AFRH campus as required for medical appointments and/or treatments as necessary. Transportation will be provided by AFRH; CNA may be responsible for transporting resident's medical records and must remain with the resident at all times.
- Report any changes in patient condition or behavior in a timely manner to the appropriate personnel as defined within the unit.
- Adhere to all Medical Center policies and procedures as directed.
Qualifications:
- CNA license in either D.C., Virginia or Maryland
- Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States.
- Language: English Language Proficiency; must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by VA Handbook, 5005, part II, chapter 3 section A, paragraph 3j
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from an accredited nursing assistant training program.
- Genuine interest in working with seniors.
- Previous experience in nursing, patient care, or other related fields.
- Shall have one year of experience in geriatric setting.
- Ability to build rapport with patients.
- Compassionate and caring demeanor.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Ability to work well with others/in teams.
Vaccine Mandate:
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Personnel.
- Effective, November 1, 2021, all current staff and new hires must either be vaccinated or have one of the following: receiving the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine; or, the first dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, 2nd dose will be required.
