Payroll Accountant / Analyst
Reporting Structure: Director of Human Resources
Summary:
The Payroll Accountant / Analyst will manage end to end payroll processes, manages GL processes for payroll and manage day to day changes for payroll. In addition to payroll, you will be responsible for benefits administration, leave of absence administration and time keeping management.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage payroll processing cycle end-to-end processes to deliver the targeted outcome of 100% accuracy and timelines.
- Provide required payroll transactions via monthly GL postings, accrual entries and account reconciliations.
- Updates payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job titles, and department/ division transfers.
- Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
- Determines payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, and employer’s social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments.
- Balances the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies.
- Manages benefits plan reconciliation, changes, audits and problem solving.
- Monitors paid and unpaid leaves.
- Support and assist in resolution of payroll inquiries, research requests, and other inquires related to payroll taxes, deductions, wage withholdings, etc.
- Maintains payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
- Assist in additional projects and tasks outside regular job scope as needed.

Key Competencies:
- Current knowledge of payroll procedures and related laws
- Excellent understanding of multi-location payroll and taxes
- Familiarity with payroll software/ HRIS (e.g. SAP, ADP, Kronos) and MS Office (especially Excel)
- A keen eye for detail
- An analytical mind and good math skills
- Outstanding communication skills (written and oral)
- Organizational and leadership skills
- BSc/BA in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources or related field; professional certification (e.g. CPP, CPM) is a plus
