VENTEON and Harvard Resource Solutions are hiring a Senior Payroll Accountant to support an organization that is growing leaps and bounds. They are investing in people and technology while improving core systems.
Looking for a detail-oriented and proactive professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and is eager to innovate and help scale accounting operations.
POSITION TYPE: Full time. Direct Hire. PAY: $75,000 to $85,000 annually plus PTO and benefits package.
Location: Hybrid opportunity in either Birmingham, AL, or Southfield, MI. Working in Central time zone
Requirements of the Senior Payroll Accountant:
  • Bachelor s degree in Finance/Accounting or a related field. CPP designation is a major plus.
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in general ledger accounting. Payroll accounting experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience with Dayforce, Workday, and other payroll, ERP, and financial reporting systems needed.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, including working with large datasets, complex formulas, reconciliation processes, and data analysis techniques.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, month-end close processes, reconciliations, and accruals.
  • Able to identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and deadlines.

Duties of the Senior Payroll Accountant:
  • Work as part of the Payroll Accounting team under the Accounting Manager.
  • Lead payroll and benefit-related month-end close activities. Ensure timely completion of reconciliations, variance analysis, issue resolution, and reporting deliverables.
  • Prepare and review complex journal entries and related supporting schedules, including compensation expense, bonus accruals, benefit accounting, payroll allocations, intercompany transactions, and reclassifications.
  • Own and maintain accurate, complete, and timely payroll accounting calculations, reconciliations, and supporting records in accordance with GAAP.
  • Serve as a resource for payroll accounting processes. Provide guidance on accounting treatment, payroll impacts, and reporting requirements.
  • Partner with Payroll, HR, Finance, FP&A, and external vendors to support strategic initiatives.
  • Take part in process improvement initiatives focused on automation, scalability, controls, and efficiency. Support implementation, enhancement, and optimization of accounting and payroll systems, reporting tools, and workflows. Prioritize projects and competing deadlines.
  • Monitor changes in payroll regulations and compliance requirements .
  • Develop and maintain documentation of key processes and standard operating procedures.
