Job Summary
A Chemical Lab Intern typically assists professionals in a laboratory setting, gaining hands-on experience and exposure to various aspects of chemical research and analysis. The specific duties may vary depending on the organization and the nature of the research.
II. Essential Duties
- Sample Preparation: Prepare samples for analysis by following established protocols. This may involve measuring, mixing, and handling chemicals.
- Instrument Operation: Operate laboratory equipment and instruments used for chemical analysis, such as spectrophotometers, chromatographs, and other specialized devices.
- Data Collection: Collect and record data accurately during experiments and tests. Maintain detailed lab notebooks and documentation.
- Analysis and Testing: Conduct chemical analysis and tests to support research projects. This may include analyzing substances for purity, concentration, or other properties.
- Quality Control: Assist in quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of results. Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, scientists, and researchers to achieve project goals. Communicate findings and observations effectively.
- Research Support: Provide support for ongoing research projects. This may involve literature reviews, preparation of reagents, and literature searches.
- Troubleshooting: Assist in identifying and resolving technical issues or discrepancies in experimental results. Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, ethical standards, and laboratory regulations. Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures.
- Documentation: Record and document experimental procedures, results, and observations accurately. Maintain organized records for future reference.
- Learning and Development: Actively engage in learning opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in the field of chemistry and laboratory techniques.
- Communication: Effectively communicate with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders. Present findings in meetings or reports as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Associate degree in some chemistry discipline or working toward a chemistry related degree.
- Experience handling hazardous substances.
- Proficient computer skills and associated software applications to enter and evaluate data and create reports.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Skilled in problem solving and analysis as well as personal time management and technical capacity.
- Exceptional communication proficiency and focus on teamwork.
- Ability to partner with leadership as needed.
- Mathematical aptitude and possess analytical skills.
- Proficient with MS Office suite.
- Able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds.
- Able to act in accordance with established safety guidelines and processes.
