About the team
For this Reading Intervention Teacher position, you'll be working for : our high school in Wilmington, Delaware called Freire Charter School Wilmington (8th-12th Grade): Freire is all about Graduation x 2 – graduation from high school and from college. We challenge our students to achieve higher than they ever have before, and we give them the support they need to get there, including individualized college counseling. The Class of 2023 received acceptances into 81 unique colleges and universities and more than $10M in scholarship award offers. This success is possible because the Freire Wilmington community is a true family, where students and teachers work together to build the future each student wants and deserves.
What you'll do- Teach multiple sections of a direct instruction reading intervention grounded in the science of reading. These interventions are aimed at our students who have word-level gaps in their foundational reading skills, which is about 75% of our incoming 9th grade class.
- Closely monitor student progress and reteach particular skills as necessary.
- Cultivate the belief that literacy is a tool for liberation and empowerment, and that students are capable of become stronger readers!

Minimum requirements- Valid certification in any of the following areas: Special Education, English Language Arts, Reading Specialist, Elementary or Middle Grades General Certification.
- Ability to form strong relationships with students and motivate them to push past struggle.
- A belief that literacy is an equity issue, and an understanding that their role will be to close the gaps that our students have in their foundational reading skills.
- A desire to help all of our students become grade-level readers
*Effective for the 2024-2025 school year, salaries for certified teachers entering their first year of teaching start at $55,000. The annual salary range for this role is $55,000 - $85,000. We offer a competitive salary based on your experience and qualifications. Our benefits package includes health, dental, vision, and more. Delaware employees are enrolled in Delaware's state pension plan (and may additionally choose to participate in the state's 403(b) retirement plan).
