Civil Engineer

Overview:

Performs or oversees the performance of engineering activities associated with the design and construction of overhead and underground utility distribution systems.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Supervises field audits for the construction of natural gas and/or electrical power systems or other distribution systems.
• Performs design activities associated with the layout of distribution systems for utilities.
• Creates physical layout drawings for utilities when needed.
• Assists in the forecast of material and labor costs; provides training opportunities; mentors develops and guides the work of less senior engineers.
• Collaborates to resolve problems, respond to customer inquiries, and manage projects.
• Assesses risk management and cost optimization to align with project/scope of work specifications.
• Fosters a safe, productive job-site environment and quality work products; encourages an attitude of safety and quality in others; redirects those who may attempt to do something in an unsafe way; demonstrates a concern for everyone's safety.
• Presents information to individuals and groups; prepares reports and presentations.
• Ensures the work product is quality, timely and efficient.
• Guards product and company reputation by complying with all applicable legal, safety, and municipal requirements; serves as an ambassador in the community for Utilitra.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational opportunities, reading professional publications, networking, and participating in professional associations
• Serve as an example for other employees to strive towards and foster a culture of respect, integrity, and kindness.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Cross-train in all facets of the Engineering Division, preparing to fill in for anyone absent and grow in responsibility and scope over time.

The person in this role will uphold the culture of Utilitra, including relationship building with customers as well as general behavior on Utilitra or client premises or at Utilitra sponsored events.

Requirements/Qualifications:

• Bachelors' degree from an accredited school in Civil Engineering.
• Experience contracting or consulting in the utility industry preferred.
• Knowledge of electrical, civil, mechanical, gas, or other engineering design principles and methodologies.
• Proficiency with MS Office, CAD, and/or Microstation a plus.
• Thorough understanding of gas and electrical projects/work is a plus.
